  • 1.  [Question] Installing Multiple XPression versions on the same computer

    Hello.

I'm wondering if it's possible to *safely* install multiple versions of XPression on one machine.

I usually use designer, but am now delving into using XPression API, which is why I need either studio/dev to quickly test code. I also have had to make packages for other versions of XPression (such as Prime).

The workaround I have rn is team viewering into a separate PC that has studio installed, and running code there remotely. Obviously not ideal, but I'm lazy and don't want to get up every time I want to execute (computer is not near me). Ideally I'd be able to rapidly test everything on one machine.

The alternative is I'd have to reinstall and install XPression versions. I can't keep the studio dongle (it's on loaner), I don't want to deal with setting everything up again.

I've heard horror stories from my coworker about installing multiple versions of XPressions. I'm willing to do registry editing/scripting to make this work.

There should be no issue with having multiple versions installed at the same time. XPression stores everything (config etc) in the program files folder, and nothing in the registry. Even having multiple versions of Studio is no problem, you can just install them to different folders or rename the program files folder after installing it.

@bford thanks, I'll have to try that and test it myself.
