Elections using ENPS Stats

  • 1.  Elections using ENPS Stats

So we've been setting up our election ticker to use ENPS stats, and we almost have it working. The ENPS stats computer is communicating with the Xpression computer. It's sending data through the CII Gateway, and even in the logs we see the race name, candidates, results.

But in the CII Gateway it says "Reply requested, but not received within timeout." Also no groups/take items are being created in the Sequencer.

Anyone know what that means? Thanks in advance!

    Chris,

A copy of your CII logs with multiple examples of what ENPS Stats is sending to the CII Gateway would make it much easier to determine what is wrong.

If this is an urgent matter you should contact Ross Technical Support - techsupport@rossvideo.com

The message you are seeing in the CII Gateway would not stop it from creating Take Items when it receives (valid) commands from ENPS Stats.

    Chris,

I was looking at your logs you sent to Tech Support. Is your CII Gateway connected to an XPression Studio/BlueBox?

    Garner,

It's connected to a box that has the Designer version and the Player version installed. Not the Studio version.

On the CII Gateway, it says "Connected..." when either the Designer or the Player version is opened. Just to clarify, the CII Gateway is on the same computer as the Designer/Player software.

EDIT: Although, one thing I do notice different... where it says "Heartbeat"... your box is green, our box is red. Don't know if that tells you anything extra.

    Ah!

That would be the problem. And would also explain the 'Reply Requested but not....' message we see as well.

XPression Designer & XPression Player do not support CII Commands. The CII gateway will connect to the engine (and show it as connected) but the engines will not accept the commands from the CII Gateway.

You will need to test on an XPression Studio or XPression BlueBox. If you need to test outside of your control room CGs you will need to upgrade your XPression Designer to XPression Developer.

All that said - the commands coming from ENPS stats in the CII log all look perfect!

    Ah thanks Garner.

That being said, I talked to our Engineering Director, he said that our original problem was that we couldn't get it working with the BlueBox. Which is why we were trying to use the Designer/Player version of the software. He wanted me to double check that It could in fact be used with the BlueBox.

    Thanks!

All editions of BlueBox will work with CII Gateway.

The issue with BlueBox is you can't see the Sequencer that you are creating the take items in.

As long as you see this message in the CII Gateway:

01-10-14 16:30:21: Executed: Created Take Item ID: 1111 from Template ID: 9999

You should be able to recall that Take ID # (1111 in the above example) using the Synergy Switcher.

I am trying to make a football score ticker using ENPS stats. I am able to generate the Take Items from ENPS stats in my Xpression Studio box, but I need to air it from a BlueBox output. Do I have to move the CII gateway to the BlueBox? Is it dongled? Are there other problems this will likely create? Without being able to see the BlueBox sequence, how do I play a range of Take Items? Can I play a scene from my Remote Sequencer with a script to output as a ticker on the BlueBox?

Yes, the CII Gateway is USB license dongle protected. You would have to move the dongle and the software.

Looking at your account it looks like you might have two CII Gateway licenses already - but the second one that shipped to you might have been because it was missed on the original order - but I can't tell. You can check what licenses are installed on the system right now:

    License Reader

(Check and see if you have another XPression USB license dongle sitting inside an XPression software pack too)

Moving the CII Gateway will only cause problems if you are using it for the Studio already. Do you have any devices sending CII commands to the CII Gateway on the XPression Studio?

BlueBox does not support the CII feature of adding all CII created take items to a group, so you wouldn't be able to trigger a sequencer group with a script to play a range of take items.

With a lot of work we could get your BlueBox playing the CII created take items from ENPS stats (perhaps using Dashboard or a CII test tool) but you will have a MUCH easier and better experience if you can arrange to play your ENPS stats content from the Studio.

    Garner,

My IT tells me we only have the one CII Gateway license, so it may well have shipped separately. I can rearrange channel assignments to play ENPS Stats generated scenes on the Xpression Studio for the most part. One exception is any scene with Window Capture materials. Another is a GoogleMapAPI script that generates a map quickly---it stores an image in a specific folder on the Studio media drive that I have not been able to duplicate in the BlueBox autodeploy folders.

Assuming I can work around those issues:

Do I assign a Take ID number to the group and fire that from a Custom Control on my Carbonite?

How do I set a time for each scene to play?

How do I automatically advance to the next?

How do I loop back to the top of the group to repeat the scenes?

    Thanks,

    James.

    First enable this:

Then once the Election Sequencer Group has been created:

    Garner!

This works beautifully! Thank you. I am running V5.7 build 3064, so I don't have a couple of options on preferences that I see you have, but the scenes all build within an Election folder by default. I numbered the Election group and fired it from a Custom Control by that TakeID number....I can right click on the group and Take Offline, but was hoping to build a Custom Control to clear it. If I use Clear Channel on the keyboard, it clears the current, but after the three second delay, the next one reads on.

    Thanks,

    James.

    Hey James,

Took me a little while to get this one, looks like we might be missing a couple of handles in the RossTalk protocol to do this cleanly, so we'll brute force it instead with some simple scripting :)

Edit > Preferences > Keyboard/GPI Map > Add Script Event > Assign RossTalk GPI # Trigger > Add Script to Clear Group By Name

Image of the adventure around the GUI

    Here's the script I used:

    dim group as xpTakeItemGroup

    engine.sequencer.GetGroupByName("Election", group)

    group.setoffline

So now you just have to trigger the RossTalk GPI # that you assigned to the script action with a custom control! Should work just fine.

Yes, it is! Ah, the circles and the arrows and the paragraph on the back....

Oh, thanks again, Garner---it works beautifully...I had to make a pair of shortcut keys because my ticker is two lines from two separate groups.
