Brand new to Xpression and was basically told, "figure this thing out, will ya?" We had a week of training, but now questions abound, especially with Visual Logic. I'm already struggling with basic logic constructions that I could breeze through in After Effects expressions (that extra "e" makes a big difference).

Just as a mental exercise, I tried to make a text string that would start white, change to yellow after 5 characters, orange after 10, red after 15, and stop accepting input at 20. White to yellow was easy enough. Then I thought I could use And blocks and an Input Selector to do the rest, but nothing doing. I can't even access any values of the Input Selector beyond 1 and 0. If And block returns 1, it's Material 1, and Material 0 if it returns 0. No idea how to access any values other than that.

Do input selectors not work that way in combination with And/Or blocks? How do you access values above 1 in an Input Selector? And is there a help document that explains all the function blocks or goes more in-depth on VL than the Xpression User Guide? I've been unable to locate anything on the site.

Thanks in advance for this and all future help I'll no doubt be requesting.

Thank you! That makes a bit more sense. I'm able to backtrack it and see what you did (not sure I'd have come across that on my own). Is there an online document that lists all the function blocks and their operation? I see it's in the online help but I'm not always at the Ross workstation.

The help file that installs with XPression (not the same as the user guide) has all the visual logic block descriptions.
Start > All Programs > XPression > Help > XPression Help

The best thing about xpression is that there are several ways to do what you want to do. The bad thing is there are several ways to do what you want to do. Keep your chin up and ask questions. I use the forums as a barometer of my own knowledge base. When I first started I had no idea what people were talking about. Now I at least know what they are talking about but I can't always answer the questions. The people at Ross are helpful beyond your dreams. They have taken me step by step through projects and have helped me succeed. The first step is knowing you can ask. Have fun. I know I am.
