  • 1.  Underline a Font in Xpression

    Posted 10-02-2013 04:18
Hello all, I am super new to Xpression so forgive me if this post is a repeat. I'm looking for a way to underline a font in Xpression. I see no option for this in the Xpression software; and have found no reference to "underline" in the operators manual nor on this board. Has anyone run into this before? Did you find a work around? The only reason i'm asking is because my client requested it.

Though I find it funny that I can't find any reference to "underline" in the Xpression software, but when posting this, on the Ross website, there is a clear button to "underline" this text... Any suggestions? Again i'm only asking because my client wants to underline certain text.

    Thanks All

    Steve

    Hey Steve,

I'm working on 5.4 now, but I'm fairly certain this works in 5.1 also.

For this example I will be working with Left justified text, so the line follows your text to the right as you type.

To make this happen you will need a Text box, and a Quad.

Make the Quad the child of your Text box, then complete the below lists for each object.

    Text Object:

Type in some text, whatever you like.

    Go to Tab & Options.

You will see a box titled Auto Scale.

    Check the Enabled Box.

Make Target ; Children, or First Child depending on how many objects you would like to adjust.

    Change Mode too Width Only

    Quad

It's important here to adjust the Quad size and not it's scale to the appropriate length of text.

Note the Quad length and divide it in half.

    Go to the Transform tab

Under Pivot for X input -(half quad length). The negative value is important to align the pivot point to the start of your text.

Type away and your line should follow your text along the page, as long as there are no page breaks.

    Hope this helps,

Awesome Ross, what a great workaround. and I bet this will totally work with L3rds where the producer wants the text bar to be the same width as the text.

    Thanks Ross, You Rock!
