  • 1.  Proper Case of Acronyms, etc.

    Headlines in our newsroom are supposed to have every word capitalized. Well, I am hoping to protect against a producer who is typing too fast and forgetting to capitalize something, so I searched the community, and found:

    Text = StrConv(Text, VbStrConv.ProperCase)

    The code works beautifully, but what about acronyms, company names, two-part names, et cetera, that are not capitalized according to the "only the first letter cap" rule?

    Is there a way to exclude text from the actions of the script?

    Thanks, James.

    Hi James,

    In short, the answer is no. XPression can not make a distinction by itself between regular text and company names for example. So the only one who can do that is the person inputting the content.

    However if you really wanted to, you could make a list of all the words that needed to be excluded from the script and insert it into XPression and make the code scan every word in your content to check if it's present in the list of excluded words.

    Then if a word is not in the list it will capitalize the word. But it would mean you would have to generate a very, very, very long list...

    A much easier way would be to set "small caps' to 100% on the text object. It's on the scene font tab in the same column as Size is. "Sml Caps: 0%"
