I have a quad inside a layer, and the layer is set to Multiply blending mode. I also have a mask that fades from 100% alpha on one side to 0% alpha on the other. When I layer the mask on top of the quad, only the part of the mask that is full alpha masks out the quad. None of the fade part of the mask seems to work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Brian,

I have a sample I put together captured here for you.

    Couple of notes:

    • Set the Layer Object blending mode back to Alpha Blend (default)
    • Edit the mask material (Layer 1) blending mode and set that to Alpha Mask
    • Ensure both the red layer and the mask layer are nested inside your layer object.
    • If you find the layer order is not behaving as expected then enable Manual sorting on the Rendering tab for the Scene Object. It is under depth sorting.

Let me know if this gets you the result you were looking for or if I misunderstood something.

    Regards,

    Chase

Thank you for the quick response, but this doesn't quite achieve what I'm looking for. I am trying to achieve an effect where my red bar is a multiply object instead of a solid alpha so I get that transparency effect.

I know of 2 ways to achieve that:

    1) If I set the blending option for the material I'm applying to the red bar to multiply, which achieves my transparency effect. When I then put that inside a layer so I can mask it, the red bar completely disappears once it's inside the layer.

    2) If I set the blending option for the material I'm applying to the red bar to alpha blend and then put it inside a layer that has it's blending set to multiply. Once I do that, then the mask object doesn't mask the red bar as intended.

Your solution works, but your red bar isn't set to multiply, it's only a solid color with a mask applied.
