  • 1.  Video Wrapping Around A Cube

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone know if it's possible to have a video wrap around a cube. For instance have a video file that I want on the front face of a cube, and the left face of the cube. The video file is just scrolling text. I'd like it to look as if the text was actually just wrapping around the cube.

For example, one of the words is "INVESTIGATIVE"... I want to see "INVEST" on the left face, and "IGATIVE" on the front face. I tried messing with the Texture Coords and changing the X POS, but that moves the position on both the front and left face of the cube.

    Anyone have any ideas?

It's not glamorous, but there's always the brute-force method of just creating two videos, one for each side. I had to do it once for a three-projector wide stage performance.

In After Effects, I set up my composition to be three times wider than normal, then produced the video in that. I then nested that comp into another comp with the normal resolution, but three times. Then I rendered the video out three times, one for left, one for middle, and one for right.

Like I said, it's not glamorous, but it would get you the results. Someone else may have advice on how to do it within XPression.

If you build the cube in a 3D package and export to .3ds with UV coordinates, the video texture will wrap according to how you laid out your UV's. We are doing something similar for the NBC NFL games.

Awesome, Thanks to both of you. I'll give these a try.
