  • 1.  Applying a material on the inside of a Cylinder

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to make a sort of election graphic using cylinders that go up and down depending on the percentage of the votes.

In the layout I'm using pictures of players which can be voted upon. In the layout I'm trying to achieve an effect where the picture of the player is on the inside of the cylinder but facing the front. On the front of a second identically sized and positioned cylinder, I would place the percentage.

However, I can't find how I can put the picture on the inside of the cylinder. I can rotate the cylinder but then the back of the image is visible, which is black.

Anybody has an idea on how to do this?

    Best regards,

    Kenneth

I'm not quite sure I understand the effect you are looking for but the two options that could affect this are the Culling Mode (on the Rendering Tab), set it to None. Also, you may need to edit the Material and turn on the "Double Sided" flag for the material layer.

Thank you Brian for your reply.

I didn't mentioned it in the original post but I've put Culling Mode to None already.

I did try out the Double Sided-flag before however, when I looked at it, it seemed to me that it was like the normal rounding like when the picture in on the front of the cylinder. However, I just tried it out on a bigger cylinder and it acually does put in on the inside and at the back of the cylinder with the inverted bend. But it doesn't make a big difference on my project but that's fine. At least it works :-)

Also I've noticed that when I'm trying to apply a picture to a cylinder, the picture get deformed. I need to use the Texture Coordinates to try and rectify it again. Is there like a specific rule to follow to put your pictures back in the right aspect ratio?

The ratio would probably involve calculating the circumference of the cylinder (2*PI*R) and dividing by the length of the cylinder.. Then that ratio needs to be compared to the original aspect ratio of the picture to find the right texture scaling value. Trial and error and eyeballing it might be quicker. ;)

I was never any good at maths so I'll just stick with trial and error...

    Thanks!
