  • 1.  Antialiasing on a virtual set

    Posted 06-18-2015 14:53
    Hey there,

I'd like to know if there's a way to improve the antialiasing when the «Anti Alias» value in Preferences/Hardware Renderer already is switched to «16x CSAA High Quality»?

Why: even with these settings there's a strong flickering on horizontal and even vertical lines everytime the camera slightly moves.

The virtual set was designed in c4d and imported in XPression. All materials are emissive and there's no light in the scene. It seems to me this quality is just not acceptable for a virtual set. I also watched it on UX and the problem persists.

Best regard ad thanks for your help

Under Hardware Setup for your output, enable software filter and experiment with softness levels. This should help signficantly. I use this on all virtual sets to some degree. Because you never know where they will be moving the camera in your scene. hope this helps.

Also to answer your question specifically, I do not know of any way to increase past 16x CSAA High Quality with existing hardware, hopefully next gen geforce and DirectX will increase this.

    Thanks Paul,

I just tested this and on some parts of the set it helps. But on other areas it makes it even worse because the softness makes the flickering more obvious. I just noticed that the antialiasing almost perfectly works with XPression primitives but unfortunatly I won't be able to rebuilt the set just with these five elements...

Are you saying if you build a cube in XPression and import a cube from a 3D application, The anti-aliasing will defer? I have not witnessed that. If you have an example of geometry you can send me, I will take a look. placombe@rossvideo.com

One more question.... you are not using layer objects or layers by chance?
