changing icon of a video clip material

I've got lot's of video clips as materials.. some of the material thumbnails show what the video is(still) and some do not (is there a reason why sometimes it populates the thumbnail with a still of video and sometimes not?).. is there a way to choose which frame to use for the material thumbnail and which frame to use for the scene thumbnail?

    Hi Chris,

I don't think you can select which frame of video is used for a thumbnail but you can try opening the material manager, right clicking, and selecting 'regenerate all thumbnails'.

Does change any of the blank thumbnails?

no.. the regenerate all thumbnails was the first thing I tried.. still wondering what that really does.. maybe it was mislabeled?

Unfortunately Chris there is no way to designate the material preview thumbnail, and I can see why that would be problematic particularly when using clips with blind reveals.

Let me make the scenario known to our development team.

The "Regenerate All Thumbnails" actually does what is said on the button.

Sometimes, when you edit materials and scenes often, the thumbnails are no longer reflect the actual content of the scene/material (especially older builds of XPression showed this behaviour). When you click "Regenerate All Thumbnails" each scene/material is checked and the accompanied thumbnail will be regenerated according to the current content of the scene/material.

You shouldn't need the button, but just in case the thumbnails are incorrect you can use it.

I found that if a video is on a scenedirector track, the video can be moved forward to a position, where I want to pick a thumbnail. < correct me if I am wrong.

The only issue is, that a regeneration of one thumbnail is not available, only all Thumbnails. This can end in having a correct thumbnail at one scene, but a wrong one with another scene.

    Thomas,

For just the scene your working on (in the Scene Director example above) what you want to do is NOT press the "regenerate thumbnails" button.

Instead once you have the Scene Director where you like it just "Hide/Unhide" an object (toggle the Visibility of any object in the scene). This will trigger the scene to regenerate it's thumbnail.
