    Hi,

I have a PNG image sequence that I'd like to use as a mask, but I've been unable to get either a single image or video clip I've created do do what it's supposed to be doing.  I've done plenty of masks with other items in the past but this one has me stumped.  I've tried playing with the various blending modes, etc.  What settings am I missing?  I've included one of the images below that I'm trying to use.

    thanks!

I think that this mask would do the opposite of what you want, I think Xpression uses inverted masks by default. Also, did you make sure that the layer that you are masking is within a render layer?

are these just b/w images without any type of alpha channel?

In this case, yes.  These are simple black/white images.  They came from an image sequence that I know I can use in After Effects.  I was hoping to do the same in XPression but it looks like they are not processed in the same manner.

in after effects I suppose you would use luma matte? What you could do is export this sequence from AE as lossless plus alpha. Then run through video coder and you would have an .avi file with embedded alpha. I don't know that Xpression can do a luma key for masks.
