    Hi XPression-Team,

We are to build new hardware platforms for our XPression systems, as the old workhorses (HP Z800 from 2010) are now 9 (!) years old.

Starting with 1 Xeon CPU, GTX 285, 4GB RAM, 15k SAS-HDs they have been upgraded in 2015 with 2 Xeon CPUs, GTX 470 (and later GTX 970), 24 GB RAM and SATA SSDs. They still work good in our HD environment... but I nevertheless I have some questions. We are willing to stick with the HP Z-Workstations, so I went to see what Ross Video is telling me about the User Defined Hardware Platform Specs. There was nothing surprising, the good old Core i7 recommendation with an stable ASUS MoBo and a recent nvidia GTX GPU. I can remember, that the XPression people always recommended to use a "gamer"-GPU-Platform, because they said, that would work best and was extensively tested - back then they told me to avoid using any nVidia Quadro-GPU because of unprdictable unstability with XPression software.

BUT: I was very surprised to see, that the latest Turnkey systems utilize a Quadro P4000 GPU. Can someone explain, what has changed?

    So my questions are

    1. why do they still recommend the gamer GPU in user defined hardware while using Quadro GPUs in their turnkey systems?
    2. They still recommend Windows 7 in the User Defined Hardware Platform, while utilizing Windows 10 Pro in the turnkey systems.

I am a little bit confused about that. If someone could deliver some information I would appreciate that.

    Thanks a lot
    Regards
    Sefa

We do ship Windows 10 now. Win 7 is the minimum spec. If you want to use Win10 that is ok too, as long as you are on XPression version 8.0 or higher.

The GTX series of cards are a better performance for cost ratio. They typically outperform the Quadro cards for a smaller cost.
We do use the P4000 in our 2RU chassis as it is the best single height/slot card in terms of performance. We use the GTX card in our 4RU chassis.
