  • 1.  Applying a gaussian blur

    Hello everyone,

A producer asked me if I could blur pictures inside XPression. I said yes, no problem. However now it occurs to me that there's only a directional blur which can be applied in XPression, however it doesn't quite do the trick for me.

I'm using 4 different directional blurs right now but it's a bit hard to get the effect right. So what are the chances of getting a gaussian blur as a native effect in XPression somewhere in the near future ?

    Cheers,

    Kenneth

I've run into this same problem. A Gaussian Blur would be a great addition to the Xpression effects. Also, a simple Border effect too.

I just received an e-mail notifying us of a new version of XPression which is available.

    It says:

    [implemented] a gaussian blur effect

Now that's what I call SERVICE!

    Thanks for the update guys!

    Cheers,

I just downloaded the new version and I'm trying the new gaussian blur.

Works like a charm but for my use right now I won't be able to use it because the spread is limited to 20px.

In the project I'm building I have to make a picture completely blurred, so the limit of 20px is too small for me.

But once again many thanks for the effort guys!

    Cheers,

    Kenneth

    [EDIT]

I just remembered that I can put multiple effects on top of each other so problem solved!

You can also try playing with the "Minimum Mip Level" on the Texture Shader, in combination with the max gaussian blur. This will give you a really blurry (though somewhat blocky) image.. I'm not sure what you're using this for, but if its for something like a gameshow where you want to really blur the image the mip level may be good for that purpose..

    Hi Brian,

This is indeed a very good tip. The only difficulty is that it cannot be used in an animation...
