I can't seem to figure out how to change the audio level of a wav file within a scene. Is that possible?

Chris, you are not alone. I've been told the capability to adjust audio levels exists in the scene director, but haven't been able to access it. Thanks for putting the question up here.

I recall in the past going to the audio track in the animation controller and just dragging the 'audio line' up or down and it changed levels but I can't seem to do that in 5.9.

    Hey guys,

once an audio clip is added to the scene director you have to expand the track with the small black arrow button at the far left of the audio track on the scene director. Once expanded it will reveal a blue line representative of the audio level.

To adjust the level you must add at least one keyframe to the clip to perform the click and drag operation. To do this position the play cursor on the desired frame then click on the red circle button exposed in the audio track when you expanded it. This will add a keyframe and give you a point to click and drag on.

I see how this work on audio files. Thanks! Is there something analogous with audio in a video file?

It's not possible to manipulate audio embedded in video. The video clip would need to be re-rendered with different audio levels.

Or you can split the audio from the video in side something like Premier and import separately, that will allow you the controls over the audio from within XPression. Remember to make a version of the video without audio or it will doubled up.
