  • 1.  How do I do back to back Rolls?

    Posted 01-07-2021 16:56

I work in a legislature and have created biographies for members. We have 61 members and I have created a roll for each of them. (61 individual scene groups with different backgrounds for each). I have drug them all into the sequencer and incorporated a title and copyright page. I am trying to automate starting the next one rolling after a 15 second pause on the present one. I have event markers at the end of each scene group which initiates a pause. This whole package gets recorded and played back off a video server. I realize most people don't have the need for back to back rolls, let alone 61 of them, so I can't find much info on how to do this. I someone could point me in the right direction it would be very appreciated.

Have you tried playing with the timing conditions of groups?

I'm new to Xpression so not versed in the intricacies of it yet.

Each roll is a different length as we want the speed the same in all of them. The total package is about 80 minutes. I'm getting tired of mixing it manually about every other week.

I want the last 15 sec. of video with address info paused on screen. I was thinking a VBA script that would start a 15 sec. countdown timer on an event marker that stops the roll at the end of each scene group and then start the next roll when the timer ends. Not sure where to begin though.

You are correct to use event markers, you can put one at the end of your scene, and just put mode to pause and it will hold at the end. You can then use VB script or visual logic to trigger a fade. Does that make sense or would you like a sample scene?

On investigation I discovered that the Prime software we have doesn't support VB(.net) scripting. It does support visual logic however. Looks like that is the way to go! I haven't played with it yet but if you could send a sample scene that might prove very helpful.

What i need to do is, after the Event Marker causes a pause, to trigger a timer for 15 secs. and at the end of the timer trigger the next item in the sequencer to come online and start its roll.

    Thanks for the help!

Follow this video, I think it's exactly what you want.

Thanks for the help... the video wasn't exactly what we were looking for.

But we solved the problem. Created a timed group and added the 61 rolls into it in the sequencer. Then back in Layout looked at the number of frames in each scene group duration (had to toggle from speed to frames, note the value and then return to speed for duration) and added 450 (frames for the 15 second pause). minus the delay and ramp-up speed at the start of each roll. Then in scene Director we slid the end of it out to whatever the number was for the total duration. Lost most of the transitions in the sequencer but that was easily set back to what we wanted. On double clicking on the timed group in Sequencer all our Rolls played out back to back with our effects intact.
