  • 1.  How to use Datalinq to import text from several textfiles

    Posted 01-06-2021 21:34

    Hi there,

    i have two questions.
First, what filetype or database is used in this video to get the gamedata from, excel, xml?
    https://youtu.be/sFV5wR1gRIo

Second, i have several textfiles, with tab-delimited names and numbers, but all in the same positions in the rows and columns; names and shirtnumbers from 11 soccerplayers in a soccer team.
    Like this:
    1 Name Lastname
    2 Another name
    3 Name
    4 Person
    5 Someone
    ....
    Et cetera, till 11.

In Xpression i have a tactical formation with player names and player shirtnumbers like in the supplied image.

These names and numbers are connected to a text file thats 'textfile datalinqed'.

Often in a broadcast i have to present up to 5 matches.
I'm currently in the process of building a new Xpression project.
For the 5 matches i will at least have to mouseclick my way through at least 10x22=220 Datalinqs to link the fields from 10 textfiles to 10 Scenes.

    A sh*tload of work. Very error-sensitive.
Looking at the video i mentioned, this must be easier to achieve.

The question: can i create only one scene with the playnumber and playername fields and create datalinks in these fields, where then i can place the the scene several times in my sequence and fill the fields by choosing a textfield through for instance a dopdown menu?

I once tried this through an Excelsheet on a shared disk, but data doesnt always seam to update properly, so i went back to textfiles.

    Hey,

The first video is using XML.

I would check out the 5 different datalinq videos on the XPression U, especially the ones regarding datalinq keys.
