This is probably a stupid question, but I'm new at Xpression and am stuck on the basics.  I created an animation using a Scene Director that flies my lower third on.  I dragged that scene into my sequencer, but can't get it to animate.  It just takes to air as is.  How do you trigger animations that are built into scenes from the sequencer?

Im new to Xpression as well but Ill take a wild guess, I believe what is happening is that your animation is playing on preview.

You have to add a pause to the scene that way it will animate after you take it to air.

Add a pause to the scene where?

In the Scene Director at the beginning. (right click on an empty space on a track in Scene Director > Add Clip > Event Pause)

Add the pause at least 2 frames in, I mean do not add the pause at zero I have found that the pause is missed if added at zero.

The pause is a yellow layer like, then will come your blue layer for the animation.

So everything lives on the same track?  Or do the pauses need to be on their own tracks?

If you are not using transtion logic, just make sure you have 1 scene director and that scene director is set as default. You can check it is default right-clicking and set as default. That scene director will play each time the scene is played. 

Are you trying to use transition logic or is this without transition logic? 

That may be the confusion.  Do you need Transition Logic to execute through the sequencer?  Or is it that if you've got one single motion it can live on the default and play via sequencer, but for more than one you need logic to play out?

You should try just having 1 scene director with you animation in, pause and animation out. 

Make sure transition logic has no rules added to it, if you haven't touch transition logic then don't worry there should be any rules in there.

Hi Simon, yes, I've combed through XpressionU, but I find that I'm missing some basic information here and there to keep in sync with the videos.  For example, in the Transition Logic videos, maybe I missed it, but does it explain when you want to create a lower third bottom line update in and out, and all of the objects live in the same Group Object, how do you separate out just the bottom line to effect?   I've selected the bottom line in the Update Scene Directors, and while it adds keyframes, they're flat on the 0 line without an animation.  Little details like this are tripping me up.

Hi Simon, this is great, thank you.  Had two follow up questions from other Xpression info I've received that I did not see in these videos:  

1) Default markers - I was told to have them at the beginning of every Out or Update Out and at the end of every In or Update in.  I was told they are necessary so that the graphics don't pop on and off the screen in between the logic.  True/false?

2) Preview marker - to set the icon on the scene.  Which scene director should this be set on or should it be set on multiple scene directors?
