Hello all.  I need some help on the best workflow for a continuously updating crawl.  I'm looking for the best workflow on how to accomplish adding info to a crawl that is already running on the output.

I have some jobs coming up where they want tweets / donor names in a crawl.  Of course we won't get this information until the show starts.  I know how to make a crawl; I know how to use datalinq.  I have watched the "crawl" tutorials (<n> <n+1> etc.) twice and I have never been able to add information to the datalinq (excel sheet)  source and have the crawl update (while already scrolling on-air).  I always have to stop/start the crawl to get the new datalinq information to show up in the crawl.

So my question is...  Is there a way to make a crawl show new datalinq (excel sheet) information after it is already on-air?  If yes, what is the best workflow to accomplish this?  My goal here is to start the crawl and then let the PA add the new info (via datalinq) while I concentrate on other show elements.

Again any advice on the best workflow would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks

Can you change to another data source or are you fixed to excel?

No; not fixed to excel.  But since excel is the most common format that I get me lists in, it would be helpful if it was a format that an excel listed could be exported to.

Hey, I have it updating for me with an .xls file but I needed to make sure the file was in a share workbook mode.

That means on new excel you need to NOT use the new co-authoring feature which can be turned of if you first turn on some legacy features in excel.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-happened-to-shared-workbooks-150fc205-990a-4763-82f1-6c259303fe05#:~:text=Click%20File%20%3E%20Options%20%3E%20Quick%20Access,that%20item%20and%20click%20Add.

Once you have those legacy features enabled you can turn on workbook sharing
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/excel/use-shared-workbook

After I did this I was able to make changes and the crawl updates without coming offline, I can just leave it always online and it updates.

Something I have seen used before is using a text box to update a widget.  So if in excel you had like a number of take items needed, you could grab that text box and put it into Xpression.  Have a script in your scene director that tells the widget what value it should be set at. - The widget is then going back into a script for if widget is x value, then execute a take on the next take item.  If it is the max value that you want to stop at, then it resets the widget value and then does a take based on that widget.

So lets say you have a widget with default value of 101.  You have 99 Take items in a group.  In excel you have a text box that is doing a =COUNTA function.  That returns a 10 with 10 items listed.  That 10 goes into your Xpression scene to tell the scene that at 110 to reset the widget to 101 and do a take.  Then if you add another row of data, now that value is 11.  So then you take the 11 and have the widget keep going to 111, and then reseting.

Just a thought, I do not know if it will work.  I know that function works when it is a static text box in Xpression and not a datalinq.
