Publish Text in Crawl scenes in Sequencer

How can I make the text boxes in scenes within a crawl group editable from the sequencer view? I have clicked the "publish" box for the text, but when I put the group in the sequencer, it doesn't show up.

    Thanks

    Hi Brian,

You can add a emty group in de sequencer (ctrl + alt + G), and set your roll / crawl settings on that group.

After that, add scenes in that group, you can change your published objects in de Template Data Tab.

If i have a graphic that goes behind the text do I need to put that in a separate group to get it to play out? It doesn't seem to work if I put it in the same sequencer group with the text

Do You mean that you have a static background?

The way I tried building it before was by making a Group Scene which had a video file that played as a 3 point loop (using the scene director to play and loop it). The text for the crawl was done from the sub-scenes in the group. But when I just made 2 scenes (a background scene that has a 3 point video animation and a text scene with just a text box in it), and I drag them into a group in the sequencer set to crawl, neither message plays to the output, although the group header shows "active". If I put the background scene in a separate group in the sequencer and play it individually, it plays out fine, as do the text scenes if I play them out from the group header. I'd like to be able to play both at the same time instead of clicking on the background in a separate group, then clicking on the text group and playing it out.

I hope that clarifies my problem.

    Allright Brian, here we go:

    step 1

    - Create a Group in your seqencer and give it teh name ''Group 1'' (default fr the first group

    - in the Group-settings, set it to roll or crawl

    - uncheck 'Blank Page on start'

    - check if your framebuffer is set on 1 and the layer to '0'

    step 2

    - make a emty scene, and put that as first TakeItem in your Group 1 (that starts faster, rather then with flag "blank page first' on

    step 3

    - make a scene with you videoloopbackground in it

    - set this scene on layer -1

    - in the Layout modes, with your backgroundscene selected (in the SceneManager)..click: shift+Ctrl+E

    - The scripteditor comes up

    - in the OnOnline field enter:

    Dim myGroup As xpTakeItemGroup

    Engine.Sequencer.GetGroupByName("Group 1", myGroup)

    myGroup.Execute()

    - build it to click on the blitz-icon

    - close the editor

    step 4

    - in the sequencer, add your backround scene in the sequencer, but not in your Group 1 but in another new group

    - bring your background OnAir, and your Group 1 will be follow

    hopefully this works for you!

A strange thing happens with the scrip above on this page, be sure that he quotemarkers are the same (around GROUP 1) the last quotemarkers are the good one

This is another flaw of the XPression.

So, if you create a crawl with a scene group, it works fine, with ease at the end and all. But then you have no option to alter the data in the user field.

On the other hand, if you create a crawl with a sequence group, you can alter the data but the animation options are all messy then.

EDIT: none of the animation options work if you don't use at least two scenes, when you want to ease out at the end. My mistake.

I wish something would work like I would expect it to work. Or work at all. That would be cool too.

    Check these topics:
    http://discussions.rossvideo.com/for...-template-data
    http://discussions.rossvideo.com/for...ence-interface

Sample project from one of the topics:
    http://transfer.rossvideo.com/f/2d4427986

I never ended up making an update to this sample project, so it's quite rudimentary. It could be vastly improved by using Preview Layers, changes to the script and other modifications.

If you're having issues with creating XPression graphics it might be worth investing in additional training from a Ross Video XPression trainer via our services team. If you book well in advance you can request a high level XPression trainer.

Thanks for posting a reply. I will look at the examples. I had a training but you never know the problem you are going to face, until you try to create what you need. It's just that I find many options very complex and not logical. Plus the undo is not a real undo. And I get annoyed really fast when the deadline is near.

I see it requires scripting. I can't accept that a user update-able crawl with a dedicated CGI machine requires scripting. Sorry.
I will use the Sequence Crawl option.
Later on I'll try an extra dead Scene with published text only that might be transferable with Visual Logic into a Scene Group based crawl.
And I'll try implement height adjustment that way. XPression should develop sliders soon, so that adjustments by users do not require pesky numeric input.

You don't need to use numeric input for the spin boxes. You can click, hold the mouse button down and slide up and down in the spin box. Double clicking the spinbox will revert it back to its last value.

Is it possible to have a crawl group with just one child and fill the text in Sequence, Template Data?
Let's suppose I want to have 20 different crawls filled by operator and run just selected one.
Is it possible to use the text parent in child scene?

I don't get it, this is the most basic and a must have component.
How to check and edit the text crawl if I can't see the whole text in crawl group?

I couln't find a good way to link data witha a script. Maybe somebody else can do this.

I made a Visual Logic version using a single take item.

In the previous example the text bounding box it is moved at every frame based on scene frame until at the end of text, but the moving is progressive and it looks jerky.
I made a second version where the bounding box is moved smooth (for about 1 min.)
