  • 1.  datalinq - Graphic update automatically

    Hello,

    I have an xpression project that I have link with excel. through Datalinq  I have everything working except for one item.  I would like my graphics that are linked to Datalinq through excel to update automatically when the scene is online.  Currently, a scene that I have online, I have to double click on the online scene in the sequencer for the graphic to update.  I hope that this makes sense.  I assume that there must be some way to do that as when I do sports and use the Datalinq with Daktronics, the graphics are automatically updated that are online.

    The only option that I can find is within the sequencer under DataLinq properties, I have Live update checked

    I am using xpression vs 9

    So you are changing the data in excel and saving and then it isn't changing?

    Simon,

    Thanks for the response.  Yes, I am updating the excel file and then saving the excel file.  THe only way that the graphic gets updated  is to take the graphic offline or to double click on the graphic that is online..  This really doesn't make sense to me, but I would really like to figure this out.  Basically, should a graphic be able to be updated if it is online?

    Can you show us some screenshots of how you've configured the connection to the excel sheet in the Datalinq Server?

    Hello,

    I have provided two screenshots for you to look at.  The first one shows my configuration with Datalinq server, and the second screenshot shows one many text layers that are linked to my excel file through Datalinq

    I don't know for sure if this is the issue but you should try building some tables in excel and connect to them rather than the sheet.

    Helllo,

    I have provided a screenshot of what I think you wanted me to do.  This  change made it so while in Xpression I only see the one table that I am using.  This did not make any change to auto updating without again double clicking on the scene that is online.

    You're still connecting to a sheet there, if you see a dollar sign it means its a sheet in excel. 

    You need to go into excel and make a table.

    Connect to that instead of connecting to a sheet. 

    You do not need to use fixed tables as you have pictured in the screenshot that is a different feature.

    I think Simon has nailed the issue but I'll throw a bit more in.

    It looks like the excel file is hosted on a network share (G:/). In the ADODB setup can you try setting the "Refresh Every" from 0 to something else? Windows is not great at sending file save/change notifications to applications when the file is referenced from a network location. Forcing Datalinq to read from the file every X seconds will ensure Datalinq is reading the updated file. 

    On that same vein, you could also test this with your excel sheet on local disk (C:/) and see if live update works.
