Curious if anyone can help me with these two questions:
Is there a way to do a text gradient from left to right that does NOT apply on a by character basis.
Is there a way to make a Quad an 'alpha mask' of a text object (how its done in AE)

I have attached a reference image ('COMING UP') as well as an image to show what I am getting from the gradient on a by character basis.
The other image shows another method I tried where I pulled in a 'Layer Object'. The first child of the Layer Object is a "Text" object. The second child is a 'Quad'.
For the Quad, I assigned a Material Gradient and turned OFF the 'Rendering: alpha'.
    - As you can see this accomplishes what I wanted but it is very pixelated So it will not work.

    Hi Dalton,
In answer to your question, no, unfortunately you can only apply the materials on a per character basis. Try creating the gradient using Multiply as the material Blending mode, and maintain the same structure within the Layer Object.

Another way is to make the text a mask and have a gradient on a layer underneath the background colour you want and have the text cut through that.

    This worked thank you!!!

    Solve:
I made the Text and Quad Objects a child of the Layer Object. (Text on Top).
Then Made the Gradient as a Material and set the Blend Mode to Multiply. Then using visual Logic, linked the Text Bounding box to the width of the Quad so the quad only stays the same width as the text object.

    Dalton,
There is a function in the Tabs & Options section of the Object Inspector which does provide a method to apply the gradient to Characters or the width of the text object, or the scene dimensions. See if this works for you.
