  • 1.  Datalink to Fair-Play by Translux data controller

    Posted 06-26-2019 18:21

Hello! Has anyone had success datalinking a Fair-Play by TransLux baseball game controller to Xpression? The model I have is a \MP-70--0111 Rev. B.

First time I have run across this ... looks pretty old.

    Glenn,

We don't officially support fair play translux scoreboards.

However if there is a method for ASCII for these devices, we can read that!

Did you get your FairPlay data into datalinq? All of my schools are dak except for one, which is FairPlay. I’m using a lantronix uds-1100 and a virtual serial port into datalinq. I can see the data in hyper terminal, but it doesn’t look like ascii.

    Chris,

Checking to see if you had any progress with this.

I was able to get the data to come in via Datalinq Server - ASCII, but it is rough.  For instance, the clock sequence isn't constantly sent along with scores, etc.  For football and basketball I typically see a stream for home, then visitor, then clock data, and even then, sometimes the clock shows up more frequently than others.  This forces me to check within an XPression script to see if there is a "C" in the line read by the Datalinq Server.  If it is, then we know it is clock data and it parses appropriately.  I was able to get the protocol specs from Fairplay, but it only helped from the standpoint of figuring out what character is what.

We also wrote a parser in another language thinking, we would parse it there and then feed it via XML to XPression.  This works well, but the delay causes issues with, in particular, basketball, where tenths of a second are needed to display.

For us, Daktronics and Fairplay are the major players.  We would love to see Fairplay supported within Datalinq.  Also to note, the new MP80 is the same protocol as the MP70.
