  • 1.  Dashboard hangs on load, two different machines

    Hi Guys,

    I've installed Dashboard on two different machines, one running version 6.0, the other the beta of 6.1

    Firstly, if I try to open Dashboard in an non admin (standard) account, I get an error message and it won't open.

    I don't want to give everyone in the Studio who needs access to Dashboard administrator access, is there a fix for this?

    More importantly, if I do log into an administrator account, and try to log in, I get to the Dashboard window, but the program immediately hangs on the beachball of doom, and never recovers.

    This is happening on two different machines.

    Anyone seen this, or aware of a solution?

    Hi Simon,

    I'm sorry that you're having difficulties.

    At the moment, DashBoard requires admin privileges, so using an admin login is needed - it looks like you found this out already.

    I'm assuming that because you got the beachball of doom, you're running on OS X?

    Please let me know the specifics of your OS so we can try to replicate the problem.

    Finally, with 6.1 Beta, it's always worth ensuring that you're using the latest version. These change frequently. Please try the latest available download with admin rights and let me know whether the problem persists.

    If you are running the latest beta build and are still unable to launch DashBoard, here is something you can try:

    Rename the file:

    /Library/Application Support/openGear/DashBoard/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/workbench.xml

    to workbench.xml.old.

    This will partially reset your environment and open DashBoard without any of the documents you had open last time. If renaming the file clears the issue and changing the file back recreates the issue, that will give us some information to go on to further diagnose the problem.

    If you are still unable to launch DashBoard after renaming the file, there are other options we can explore.

    Hi James, renaming the workbench.xml file to .old fixed the issue, and changing the name back caused the issue to start happening again - so I think we have located the issue :-)

    John - I'm running 10.7.5 on both systems, one is running the straight retail 6.0 version, and the other is running the latest beta.
