  • 1.  Dashboard Locking up immediately on OSX

    Hi!

As soon as I open any recent version of Dashboard on a certain Mac running OSX 10.7.5 it tries to open a previous tab layout, and then immediately becomes unresponsive. This includes the latest version: 6.1.

I have uninstalled the application as best I know how: by deleting the Dashboard folder from Applications, emptying the trash, then restarting the computer.

However, any fresh install, including new versions or Beta versions exhibit the same problem; they come back with the same tabs layout and immediately lock up.

Are there any preferences saved elsewhere that I can delete to make this work again? Any other thoughts, besides wiping the computer and starting over?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi David.

Sorry you are having so much trouble getting the application to launch.

There is likely something happening in the restore process where DashBoard restores its previous state on launch. While I would like to investigate further, let's get you back up and running first.

DashBoard on Mac OS X stores its configuration date in /Library/Application Support/openGear/DashBoard/.metadata

This is where the problematic file lives (and why you aren't having any luck by just removing the /Applications/DashBoard folder).

If you don't have much in the way of customized settings and want to start with a clean slate, I recommend executing the following in a command prompt:

    cd /Library/Application Support/openGear/DashBoard

    mv .metadata .metadata.broken

If you do have a lot of customized settings you don't want to lose, you can also simply remove the DashBoard restore file:

    cd /Library/Application Support/openGear/DashBoard/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/

    rm workbench.xml

After that, you should be able to launch DashBoard.

    Thanks James!

I had no customizations made so I used the first option and it worked perfectly!

    Thanks again,

    David
