  • 1.  Audio peaking in dashboard through blackstorm

    Hello,

so i have loaded ~10 videos into the dashboard on my blackstorm for playback purposes. what i have been noticing is the audio comes in extremely hot and peaks. what could be causing this? the audio levels on the file before being brought to the blackstorm are normal. to counter this we have been bring down the dB level in our Selenio X50 compression converter.

Are there any audio controls once the file is on the Blackstorm and in Dashboard?

edit: i'll add you can tell the audio is hot because the meters in dashboard show it hitting the red

    Ryan,

    From what I know......

Dashboard is just a graphical interface tool, it can not adjust your audio levels.

The Blackstorm is a server -- so good audio in good audio out.

If you are running (.mov) files from the blackstorm then you need to check the compression rate on the original source. I have run into 'hot' audio and conversely 'low' audio on the files given to me to use from various different clients. If they "the client" can not correct the audio issues, then we have to take the file into an editing software, correct the audio issue, then put it back onto the blackstorm for use.

If I were you, I would create a (.mov) file with 1Khz tone --- Play your file, taking note what the audio metering level is, should be -0-. Then adjust your Selenio X50 compression converter (if you can).

There is about a 10dB difference between analog and digital audio.
