    Hi,

I'm looking at messing with AMP commands between Dashboard and our 3Play 4800.

I know that the Carbonite can connect to the 3Play 4800 to play and stop channels and I was wondering if there was a way I could translate that over to dashboard somehow to create buttons to play and stop a playout channel for our talent.

I tried to look up information on how the Carbonite deals with AMP protocol devices but this is the best thing I could find and it doesn't dive any deeper into what ports it communicates with, the types of messages, etc (https://www.rossvideo.com/pdf/cutsheets/carbonite-interface/Video-Server_AMP(4802DR-602-01).pdf). Is AMP usually done through standard TCP connection/ports or is it something different?

    Hi Michael,

AMP is a bit of an interesting protocol to actually code, we don't have it published on our website. It's not the easiest protocol to be honest.

If what you want to do is give someone the ability to hit a button in a DashBoard Custom panel to trigger events on your 3play that is connected to Carbonite the easiest thing by far to do is to create a Macro on your Carbonite that does what you need and then put a button in DashBoard that runs that Carbonite Custom Control Macro.

Ah, okay. Thanks Troy. I had a feeling it might not be so easy after doing a few google searches and coming up empty handed. CC through the Carbonite should be suffice for now.

Hmmm... I think I may have found a bug?

I made a custom control on the Carbonite that fires a play command to the 3Play, has a Hold, and then fires a stop command, essentially making a toggle button to pause the 3play. It works fine when I trigger it on the Carbonite, but when I trigger it via GPI (through analog GPI on the back of the Carbonite with a push button switch) it seems like it will play the first part of the macro fine (up to the hold), but when I hit the switch again it runs the macro from the beginning up until the hold again... never getting to the second half of the macro.

Is this a known issue with GPIs and firing custom control macros?

    Hi Michael,

By design, a GPI only triggers the start of a custom, and does not release the hold. You can release a CC hold from either a panel or DashBoard.

That said, there is something you can do: There is a Resume CC event that can be used to release a hold on a different custom. So, you can create two CCs: one with holds, and one with the hold release. Each of these can be assigned a GPI. You can trigger the start of the CC with one GPI, and advance it through holds with the other.

    I hope this helps.

    Rob
