Card Slot Names With Proxy

I've got a DashBoard Proxy Server set up on a Linux VM to speed up device connections on my staff's laptops. One thing I'm noticing as a huge difference to the standard setup is that card slot names don't show up in the device tree unless the frame's controller card is open. The names then fill in, but only persist about 17 seconds after the controller card is closed. This makes it impossible to search my 39 frames for the one card I'll looking for. Am I missing part of the setup? The names are resolved on the Linux box just fine.

    Hi Matthew

You've run into an issue with the optimizations we've made for a feature called 'minimal mode' that is built into the DashBoard proxy server.

The fastest way to resolve your issue is to disable minimal mode for your connections since you always need the full list of information for your MFCs.  To do this, on your client DashBoard (the one connecting to the proxy server), you will want to edit your DashBoard.ini and add the following line to the end:

    -Dmin.detail=full

The only .ini file I see is config.ini. I'm using the Mac installation on the client side if that makes a difference. Is that the right file?

On a Mac, the folder structure is slightly different. If you right-click on the DashBoard application, you should see a "Show package contents" to open a Finder window into the application. You will find the DashBoard.ini file under Contents/MacOS and can make the appropriate change there.

    That did the trick. Thanks!

    Hey James,

I ran into this problem and was also able to fix it with the .ini file modification. Thanks for sharing this! Is it possible to include this as a configurable option in a future DashBoard build? Is there a way to persist this change to the .ini file even when upgrading? We have approx. 50 users with individual clients and we'd like to figure out a method of managing this for them.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris

The ini file will always get overwritten when you do a DashBoard upgrade. I will see if we can get the root cause of this resolved for our next release of DashBoard. Since the core issue is on the Proxy Server side, you will see the slot names properly as soon as your Linux server is updated.

    Update 2020-08-24:

    Hi <x-zendesk-user data-user-name="Christopher Chappel">389100439691</x-zendesk-user> and <x-zendesk-user data-user-name="Matthew Drury">369629166932</x-zendesk-user>

I just wanted to let you both know that DashBoard 9.1.2 was released today and addresses the issue of card slot names being sent via the proxy server.

To take advantage of this improvement, you can simply upgrade your proxy server DashBoard. The client DashBoard machines will automatically start getting the slot names once you upgrade the proxy server regardless of the detail level specified in the DashBoard.ini. We still recommend updating the client machines to the latest release when you can.

With "minimal mode" now available to you, you should notice faster device device loading times and decreased network traffic for your client machines.

    Cheers

    James

So I updated my Linux install and it removed my proxy server configuration. I have it exported as an .ogd, but restoring the configuration is greyed out and says "Unavailable". Can you help me reload my proxy config?

    Hi Matthew

Do you have the content of the DashBoard\workspace folder from your Linux install? It would contain one hidden entry called ".metadata" with all of DashBoard's state information. If you restore that folder, everything should go back to normal.

The "Restore configuration" option is only applicable to OGP devices inside of openGear frames.

    Hope this helps.

No, the folder was killed in the update. Bummer. Oh well. I'll know better next time. Thanks.
