  • 1.  What button to paste??? CTRL + P???

    Posted 08-26-2020 21:07

    I'm not that old.. I'm 33... But honestly, for as long as I can remember, there's been three buttons that simply are universal across all editors, especially for code editors...

    CTRL + X = CUT
    CTRL + C = COPY
    CTRL + V = PASTE

    Can someone please explain to me why in the absolute world someone over at ROSS decided to take this universal knowledge from virtually 99.999999999999% of all software that has a copy/paste functionality, look at it, decided that: "Naaaaah, this is wrong! Everyone else is wrong!!! WROOOOONG!!!"
    Then decide to implement CTRL + P... Why in the world would I want to PRINT the damn code? Not to mention, it's hardly even accessible with one hand...

    For the love of ROSS, bring back CTRL + V as paste... This just breaks the code flow of the software to the point that it's just annoying...

    The default keyboard shortcut for paste is CTRL + V.

    As Alex mentioned check to see if some one has changed your keyboard shortcut settings as it can be customized to fit your needs.

    Look under Window/Prefrences/Keyboard Shortcuts

    There is an option to restore defaults. When this is done as shown in the image below the command "paste" uses CTRL + V

    I hope this helps you resolve your problem. :)

    Well... I guess I wasnt clear enough...
    When in the visual editor (WYSIWYG), creating buttons, fields, and so on... Yes, the copy/paste is CTRL + C and CTRL + V...
    And that works. I can cut out a button with X as well, and paste with V, or copy with C, etc etc...

    And as shown below, that is the case for the Keyboard Shortcuts as well.
    Trust me, it was the first I checked!

    The problem is not when designing the custom dashboards, but if you go in to edit a script in a task..
    As in not in Visual, but in ogScript, you get THIS horrible shortcut menu, and no, the original ones does not work.

    As you can see, the only ones making sense is the copy, wich is C, and select all with A...
    Cut = T (X)
    Paste = P (V)
    Delete = D (?)
    Undo = U (Z)
    Redo = R (Shift + Z)

    (Of course, all with CTRL as the controller...)

    I did update to the latest version and the problem is still there.

    v9.1.2

    Will continue to search for possible mixups elsewhere, but yeah...
    Guess next step is to uninstall and reinstall.
    Cause it's bugging the crap out of me right now... As I KNOW the "originals" worked before!

    Thanks for suggestions though.

    I can see the menu you are talking about in the ogscript editor, when I right click:

    I think the underlined letters are just "key shortcuts for the menu" presented by the program.   If you could get to that menu from the keyboard (like by hitting the alt key), you could then hit P to do the shortcut.   But since you are right clicking to get to this menu, you can't use those shortcuts.

    For me Ctrl-C, Ctrl-X and Ctrl-V all work as expected in the ogscript editor (the one pasted above).   I just copied, cut and pasted with those standard shortcuts.   Ctrl-P does not do anything for me in that editor.

    Are we talking about the same editor?  Are you using Windows?  I'm baffled.

    Ben

    Hi there Ben!

    Same editor... On windows... And I was quite surprised yesterday as well, as the regular XCV has been working quite perfectly up until last night, when I updated...

    As I said, I'll give it a uninstall/reinstall when I get home from work again.

    So, uninstall/reinstall worked for some unknown reason...
    Back to having CTRL+V as paste in the ogScript editor.

    Dunno why this happend in the first place, but it was driving me nuts the other day!
    Feel free to mark this topic as "SOLVED" or something similar.
