    I hope someone can help....

    1. New folders don't show in the Media Manager directory view.

    2. When we import a .mov file into one of the folders that does show, it says "uploading"…completes it, but then the file does not show up. The file exists and you can see it in Windows Explorer, but not in the media manager.

    Thanks

The clips and their containing folder will only show up if Blackstorm is fully satisfied with the file format and content.

Even if the video is correct, a thing like the audio not being OK, IE Uncompressed, is enough to make the clip not appear, and the folder will not show up either unless other files in it is correct.

We had the same "issue" in the beginning.

When exporting from PremierePro we chose the following settings to secure success every time:

    Format: QuickTime

    Video Codec: DVCPRO HD 1080i50

    Audio Codec: Uncompressed

And another tip while we're at it: Using the Media Manager to import the clips is often veeeeeeryyyyyy slooooooooow

Instead we use ftp with FileZilla directly from editing suite(s) wich is much, much, faster

(Ref Page 5-13 in the manual)

Is it possible to modify filenames via ftp using Filezilla? I have tried to do this, and the names have changed in the directory listing in Filezilla. But when I refresh media in Dashboard, the files totally disappear from my buckets/clip lists.

What is the best way to rename a video clip that has been uploaded to the Blackstorm?

    Thanks,

    sf

Just to add to the above statements about file names on the Blackstorm.

The database seems to be 'flat'. the Blackstorm database doesn't respect the files path on disk. Consider this scenario:

    Day One:

You have a sub directory folder named 'ONE' on your Media drive.

You upload a clip that conforms to the proper codec (DVCPro ect) named 'one.mov'.

Blackstorm database is happy. Dashboard presents the file for playback on a server channel.

    Day Two:

You create another sub directory named 'TWO' on your media drive.

You upload a clip that conforms to the proper codec (DVCPro, ect) named 'one.mov' (same file name as above).

Blackstorm database will not preset this file to the Dashboard interface. It will be missing from sight. Why?

The Blackstorm won't present the second clip. Dashboard will only show you the first instance of 'one.mov' regardless of the sub directory.

You must use unique names even within sub directories. The database doesn't seem to carry over the files path, only file names.

This is a common behavior of Playout Servers. Our Omneon Spectrum, Nexio Volt, and Avid Mediastream servers also don't like multiple clips with the same name in different folders.
