Video Servers & Replay Systems​

WE NEED THIS CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY !!!

We are experiencing random NON-playing of various mov files on the blackstorm.

After four double header baseball games for ESPN, we have had the replay IN file not play several times, then the replay IN works and the replay OUT does not, while sometimes neither play. I would say in total we have done over 600 replays in two days with a 90% of both the replay IN and replay OUT working correctly. We have probably done over 500 other transitions and cappers with about a 92% rate of them working correctly.

I am watching the side panel and see it is cuing the files properly. We are using a carbonite switcher and the following is the custom control dialogue for a typical effect to run.

Aux 5 - select blackstorm (for audio output purposes)

ME 2 Key 4 - select blackstorm

CUE ( mov file name)

pause 10 frames

PLAY command

pause 4 frames

ME 2 Key 4 - trans ON

pause 20 frames

CUT

pause 20 frames

ME 2 Key 4 - trans OFF

*** NOTE ***

Today we added the following to the end of the above listed after turning ME 2 Key 4 OFF: (does not help the situation)

pause 1 sec

cue (file name)

If a transition other than replay IN or OUT is being used then that file is re-cued for the selected transition used in the custom. If it is the end of the replay IN move then it cues replay OUT and conversely the replay OUT custom ending cue command cues the replay IN file.

Please post any help here, or email, text or call me with a solution. We certainly do not want a bad production to go to air.

Have you tried loading the transitions onto the Carbonite itself instead of trying to remotely control BlackStorm via your CC's? Once loaded, a transition animation is cached, so you can have multiple transitions for the show which load instantly.

Thanks for the suggestion, but since the elements are (mov) files and not (tga sequences) they can not be loaded onto the Carbonite. Another factor is the amount of transitions and the shear amount of total time which surpasses the media players capability.

I have been informed by Ross tech support this is a bug and both the switcher and blackstorm teams are working to solve the issue.

Any solutions to this problem since last posted? I have the same issue, blackstorm doesn't play everytime, no matter how long of pause I put in. Any update would be appreciated. Thanks.

We ended up returning the blackstoms and getting one channel XPressions. (which work flawlessly)
