  • 1.  Brightness /Contrast/Color balance adjustments on PRG Output

In relation to my previous post (not to mix two requests):

For on stage usage with LED videowalls and Projectors, I frequently bump into jobs where it would be very handy to control the final Brightness/contrast/colorbalance of the PRG output to adjust quickly.

Many times on stage I come across LED screens which don't have these features to make the screen look properly.

Or the smallest brightness setting of a 6mm Hibino screen a few weeks ago was still too bright on stage (the screen was 2400 Pixels wide, the whole stage was a huge screen).

We had to add another scaler which had these features, but it added to much delay in the end. It would help my workflow a lot if this could be added.

    Thanks.

    Hi Marc,

Sorry on CrossOver there are no Colour Correction abilities or Proc Amps. Those are only Vision Features

Oh... you got me exited for a moment. I was about to open my flight case and to switch on the mixer to try it out.

Having that feature on the AUX bus would be been awesome.

Well you won't be able to as that is a Vision Feature not a CrossOver. I modified my response as I responded based on the Forum and not what you were referencing -- I am sorry for not noticing that.

I will figure out how to get this moved to the CrossOver Forum and not have it stay in the Vision Forum.

Hi Marc, David Ross here. While the Crossover doesn't have dedicated color correctors, if what you're looking to do is black and white and sepia, there's on old switcher trick that can do that without any special features. Set the switcher up to do a linear key of the source itself (essentially a self key). Make the background white and matte fill the key with either black or brown (sepia). When you adjust the clip and gain, you can get the original look of the video but in the new color scheme. Key invert also does some neat effects in this mode. Play around with it and you'll find it should work, I've never done it on Crossover, but I did many times on earlier switchers, right back to our analog series.

    Thanks David,

    I'll give that a try.

Okay so I just went and tried to make this work as I was curious myself.

What I did (since there is no Matte Fill on a CrossOver) is a Split Key of the Colour Background to a Source (what I want the effect to be on) then I put Black on the Background (PGM bus). Turn the Key on and adjust the Clip and Gain Settings along with the Colour to get the desired effect.

I also went and did this with a Vision and had a side by side using this method (though on Vision I could have just used the Matte Fill method) and Visions 3D DVE Preprocessor Colorize effect and they looked almost Identical. I am sure with a little more Key Clip/Gain and Colour Matte adjustments I could have got them to almost match perfectly.

So to recap ;) David's method works very well but you will have to use the Split Key "Colour BKGD as fill and your Source as Alpha". To do this first in the Keyer select Colour Backround, and then Hold down the "Auto Key" button and select the source you want to effect. Now adjust the Clip and Gain settings and also make sure you have the Colour settings adjusted to your liking. Oh and Black is the source that goes behind since we only have the 1 colour Background -- just adjust your clip and gain in the correct direction to get the appropriate result.
