"Clean MLE"

    Hi all,

Sorry for such a blanket request, but can anyone point me toward some information about the "Clean MLE?" It's my understanding that's what it's called.

There are a couple effects in our Switcher that utilize this, but I'm struggling trying to find a way to modify them. Their original operator is long gone and no one else really knows anything about them.

Any recommendations? I'd get into the specifics, but I'm not entirely sure what it is I'm even talking about here.

    Thanks,
    ~Sean

I am not sure what that is either :) Sounds like something to do with a Clean Feed on an ME. I think we need more context about the show and where this is used.

Sure, in one instance, a "Clean ME" is used to create a Double Box (Remote) effect with both a live source in one box and the Chroma effect in the other.

Doing this, we're essentially using 2 effects in one ME (DBOX & Chroma). The Key that's cutting the Chroma effect in has it's source split; the Clean ME is 1/2 of it.

... If I were working today, I'd grab a pic with my phone.

Another instance is the Video OTS (VOTS), with the ME essentially cutting the graphic in over air, but with the Clean ME (Key 4) allowing us to key a video source over the desired keyhole.

... Does any of that make sense? lol

Sorry to be so lost here. You're help is always greatly appreciated. Thank you, sir!

Okay so that is not a Clean Feed so to say. Sounds like to are possibly using a Clean Feed to "enter" under other graphics and keys. So since you can set the Clean Feed to be before a Keyer for example lets say this is ME 1 and has Clean Feed set to be before KEY 2.

Since that is the case you could put ME 1 Clean Feed into Key 2 Channel 2 (when doing 2 Box in a a single keyer). You would have done the Chroma Keyer on Key 1 over the BKGD which would be under Key 2 but the Clean would not see it. Now you put the GFX over Top using Key 4 so you have the Boxes with Chroma Key in the same ME.

If I did not have GFX for "over the top" then I could have using Key 2 -- do a 2 Box and use Channel 1 to be "full Screen" which would cover up Key 1 on the ME PGM but not on the Clean.

Now I take Channel 2 and do a Box over top. Then use Key 3 to be the other Box.

    Make sense?

    Hi Les,

... I *think* I understand what you're trying to say, but I'm not sure if that applies to what we're trying to do. I tried replicating your instructions, but I get trapped trying to split the Key.

I've included a shot of my Keys for the Video OTS, for example:

Key 1 is the video source
Key 2 is the graphic the video source will Key onto
Key 3 is the Background the MLE will go over
Key 4 is the split Key, with the Clean Feed and the graphic.

... I'm specifically trying to change the graphic's source (CG2 to CG4), but I can't seem to get anywhere modifying Key 4. I can change Key 2 just fine, but with Key 4 "stuck," I'm not seeing any change.

I've tried pressing the select button above the Key, but I still don't see anything that would allow me to change the source or anything.

Does any of that make sense? lol

... I really appreciate all the help, sir. Thanks and take care.

When you press the SEL button over Key 4 the "key row" should change to show you the source of Key 4. Then you should be able to change it.

I can, but only to a single source... Is there a way to effect the split? How do I create a split, if I wanted to start from scratch?

    Thanks,

    Channel management button / menu.

The quick key is to hold the PST PATT key and press the fly key to toggle the second channel on.

When in the menu for the DVE you will see a button on the lower right of the menu for which channel your controlling. Press it to toggle between 1 and 2.

When you toggle the channel you will se the key bus toggle. Then you will be able to change the source per channel.

If you double press the channel button you will latch both channels - this is so that you can then move them together.

    Hi Les,

Hope you're holiday was joyous. :) I've been working with these suggestions, and learned a lot - thank you! - but I'm still stuck trying to assign this split Key properly.

Attached should be a screenshot of what I'm trying to change. I *think* the final piece of the puzzle is learning how to change "CG2 KEY(D14)" to something else. I need CG4's Key, I think.

Any suggestions? Every time I try to access this Key's Channel Management, I don't see any kind of interface to help me alter this.

    Thank you, sir. Take care!

Oh -- yeah channel management is for the DVE stuff. For a split key you hold down the AutoKey button and then on the Key bus you will now be able to select the Alpha that you want to split the source to.

So I would select my Keyer and the Auto Key type -- then select the source as normal. Now you hold the AutoKey and then your able to select any source you want to be the alpha. If you alpha is on the Shift side Don't worry!! while holding the Auto Key with your right hand if you press the shift button it will "latch" until you press the source selection. That way your not having to try to use your nose to keep the shift pressed or to poke the XPT if you were using the left hand to press the shift.

Hope that helps!! Oh and hey its my 1000 post :)
