Production Switchers

I have the red tallies on my sony cameras wired to the tally port on the vision desk and set to tally when on program air. I would like to wire the green tallies on the cameras to activate when the camera is selected on another MLE not a part of the main program feed but a second feed. Is there any way to do this?

Hi Paul,

Yes each of the Tallies is fully programable in the Installation Menu so that you can chose to have them trigger based on a different Bus or Rule.

However if you just want to tally them from another ME as well you could always set that ME to be Always ON Air. Then that ME will be treated as a PGM ME all of the time and you will not need to have a second set of tallies.

Hey Les. I still can't quite figure out how to do what I want with the tally programming. Is there any trick to program a tally to activate only when its associated input is selected on a single specific MLE? Like what one would expect if there was the option under the tally type knob "MLE(#)".

For example I have Camera 1, BNC C1 associated with Tally 1- type "ON AIR" RED Tally. I would then want to also associate Camera 1, BNC C1 with Tally 11- type "MLE 1 only" GREEN Tally. The end result would be that the camera ops see a Red tally when they are in Program and a Green tally only when they are selected on MLE 1 that is feeding a second Program feed with specific framing requirements.

The Always ON Air option gives me the Red tallies but the camera ops don't know if it because they are in Program or Program "2" from MLE 1 or both.

Yup so you just assign Tally 11 to be exactly that BNC C1 and MLE 1 PGM.

The menu currently says MLE 1 BKGD as the assignment -- scroll the knob all the way past all of the Aux Buses -- But it does track the ME PGM so if you put it that input in a Key and turn it on it will tally.
