We are installing a Carbonite in our mobile production truck and we also purchased a new KiPRO Rack digital recorder. Is it possible to configure custom controls on the Carbonite to send transport commands to the KiPRO over RS-422, such as "record" and "stop"? The KiPRO certainly supports RS-422 serial control. What would I need to do to make this work?

    Hi Jarrod,

The KIPRO does not support AMP protocol so it is not possible to do this over ethernet or serial control from Carbonite. You could setup GPI triggers from the Carbonite to the KIPRO to do this and be able to program them into Custom Controls though.

Although the original post was two years ago, I wanted to share my recent solution to this very same problem I had getting our Ki Pro Rack to fire off. I used an Arduino with an Ethernet shield to accept a GPO from the switcher, it then sent a HTTP GET to the Ki Pro with the query string for the play command.

    Thanks Joe!!

One other option now is with the release of DashBoard 6.2 you could create a custom panel in dashboard. Build buttons to cue and trigger events. Then use the new button GPI events to have Carbonite send RossTalk messages to te custom panel now dashboard will act as the protocol converter.

Same question here with a twist. Will Dashboard 6.2 allow us to gang record, pause, playback, jog/shuttle a bank of kipro's? We are looking for something like the HRS http://hrscontrol.com/products/udc-aja-gang-control/ but would prefer it to sit within Dashboard. Also, noob question here, what type of connectivity would we need from our dashboard PC to the bank of recorders? Would a mult work with single USB to 422 port?

    Hi Michael,

I am pretty sure that the KiPro have Network interfaces and also a HTTP post based command protocol. You should be able to create your own custom application to support this. There are examples for getting started in the DashBoard U section of the DashBoard Product site on the Ross Video website.

You will note that since DashBoard is free and the "OGscript" language is based on JavaScript you should be able to search of examples of code snippets as needed in the Java world -- so for example if I was trying to Trim text I could search for "Javascript Text Trim example" and I will find lots of examples on how to do it.

If your looking for custom development as you do not have the experience in your team then you can always look at having Ross Video Creative Services develop these custom applications for you. We do offer these services and based on a scoping of the solution would be able to provide a cost and schedule to you. We now have a small team that is dedicated to this.

    Les,

We are looking for a simple solution to send a record command to a KiPro using a custom control - IP based without any additional hardware if possible. Who would we contact at Ross about custom panel development?

    Thanks

You would contact your regional sales manager or Greg Quirk the product manager for dashboard.

That said I thought I saw somewhere on this board someone saying they have already done this themselves.

Maybe watch the tutorials that are online and you would be able to do this without having to incur an expense.
