Just a couple of quick questions about Carbonite operation:

    1. Does Ross suggest a particular size USB drive for use on the Carbonite, or perhaps limiting the USB to a particular size?

    2. What is the total number of stills or duration of media the Carbonite can have cached at one time?

    3. Managing media: How do I empty a Media Player register and load a new media sequence into that register? (we have elements that change weekly, but are the same length, I've been changing my custom control as an alternative)

    4. Where is the 'cut frame' information stored?

    5. Does Ross have any plans to implement media storage (or at least a cache) to an internal HDD?

I just watched Les' video on YouTube ... I was able to find answer a couple of the questions I had:

    2. What is the total number of stills or duration of media the Carbonite can have cached at one time? 4GB/pair of Media Stores (approximately 400 full-frames of 1080i video with Alpha).

It would seem that using Expression is the best way to import/export without removing the USB drive?

I use an FTP client (Filezilla) to put things on the USB drive while it's plugged into the Carbonite.

To clear a media player quickly, you select the cross point button on the panel, and then press '0' (zero) on the multi-purpose buttons.

For point 5: There's not enough storage within the Carbonite itself to do that. Certainly no HDD either. That's why USB drives are used.

    Hi Matt,

1- The Drive size does not matter you can use 2.5 inch hard drives even if you like. The portable style that is USB powered over the single port. We have used 1TB drives frequently. That is also the design intent of the "pocket" space in the chassis on the right.

2- correct you have the info now :)

3- to replace a media item you can delete it from the USB via FTP. I just use the native windows or Mac file browser and connect via FTP to the frame ip. Then use user and password for the username and password. Then navigate the USB.

After deleting the file you then load the media ID and it will inform you it is missing and then allow you to free up that ID number. Now load the new item and it will get assigned a new ID number. Now use the attributes to change the number to that of the previous item you were using.

5 - there is a "hidden" file in the root of The USB that we use for the media store database. This is where we keep all of the file associations and there attribute settings. Including the cut frames.

6 - the intent was for you to used a large drive and leave it in the frame. Use the FTP browsing method to move things in and out from other PCs. Especially since you run DashBoard on another PC.

As a separate note. The XPression workflow was a method recommended for the YouTube environment because they had the tool at hand and is an easy way to take those MOV files with alpha and get them converted. I normally use After Effects to do this as it also allows me to export the audio to .wav while XPression currently does not.

    Hope this helps.
