I'm running a dbx with moving bkg out of media store and it's 300 fr so takes a little bit to load when I first drag it over. I was told that once you load it, it stays in the cache unless the switcher is reset and doesn't need to reload all 300 fr every time. At this point, every morning I come in I have to reload it from scratch. Did I misunderstand?

Also, is there a way to delete errant files out of the media manager? Such as captures or animations we don't need. When a file was deleted from the drive, it didn't remove it from the media store database and this caused a problem with media store playout of another file.

    Hi Kent,

Note that since it is 300 Frames (anyway to shrink that and make the loop tighter and use less frames??) that is taking up most of the cache for the pair your using. Media 1&3 have a 4 Gig Cache and Media 2&4 have a 4 Gig Cache. So if other files are being loaded into Ram during after you use it you will need to load it again as the system would be ejecting those frames from Cache to make room for the new Media Item.

Yes when you have something that was deleted from cache just "load" the file to a channel. You will get a pop up telling you that they file can not be found and it will ask you if you would like to free up the ID in the Database. When you confirm this you will see that item disappear and now that ID number will be available again for use.

My graphics person is currently saving the animations as 24-bit without compression. Do you think it would make a difference if he saved with compression or even saved it as 16-bit? We're currently only running two animations out of media store and neither has an alpha channel.

24 bit is no alpha -- 32 bit would have an alpha.

Compression will not help as that will only make the USB "storage file" a smaller size, which is good for make that footprint smaller, however when a compressed TGA or PNG is loaded into the Ram Cache the file is uncompressed into Video Space. This actually makes the file slightly larger than a TGA since a TGA is an 8bit format and Video is 10bit

So as you can see that will not enable any extra frames in the ram cache

I'm curious, what would the maximum number of frames be that could fit in the cache, at 1920x1080?

4 gig ram cache should be about 800 frames without alpha.

Is it possible to access Media Manager through Dashboard? Currently working with the Beta version. Thanks.

yes greg. default view left side is a sub menu I believe... I am traveling and do not have a dashboard in front of me right now, recalling this from memory.

The node (sub menu) is called media manager -- double click it and you should see it populate
