• 1.  Overdrive firing custom controls on its own.

Has anyone ever had an issue with Overdrive (particularly the Vision switcher model) firing custom controls on its own without being set to. Ours lately where I work will fire a custom control (so far have had 2 different ones) on its own at random.

The one firing the most on its own is one that starts the news music at 20% volume. We have a VO coded after a piece of black coding (for just a black screen) and Overdrive randomly fires the news music on its own when we take the black coding to air. The VO coding after the black has the news music custom control assigned to start on its own when we take the VO (for when we do headlines at the beginning of a newscast), however it is randomly firing when taking the black before the VO to air (causing alot of panic in the seconds before the control room is brought to air for a show). Any thoughts?

    Hi Adam,

Might seem weird but any chance there is dirt on the touch screens that is triggering the custom controls in Preview that are attached to the template?

Another one I have heard about is where the monitors are close and literally "saliva" is triggering events as you "call" the show. :)

    Hi Les,

Touch screens are clean and all. The custom controls it fires on it own are usually the ones that are coded on the shot that is coming up next in Rundown Control.

For example, we have a "Program" CC (puts whats on air in the teleprompter screens so Weather talent can see what they are pointing at when doing weather) and a "Prompter" custom control (which changes it back to have the teleprompter in the prompter screens). In one show we do, the anchor does a tease of whats coming up next (first a VO where they read on top of video, then they toss over to the Weather talent in that tease and weather talent would give a 10 second or so tease of the weather). Our Chroma Key Wall shot of the weather talent has the "Program" CC set to fire on its own automatically right after we take the Chroma Key Wall shot to air, however on two separate occasions the "Program" CC has fired in the VO shot before the CK wall shot (fired before we took the weather wall shot and caused the anchor to stumble for a moment as her prompter suddenly went away). It has happened twice.

The CC it does the most (fires on its own the most) is the music. For the start of our shows we have a piece of black coding (which we sit on while waiting for the control room to go to air/ have red on air light activated) followed by a VO for the headlines (the VO coding has a news music CC which is set to start the news music at a low volume level on its own). Seemingly at random, when we have about 10 seconds left before going to air, we take the first piece of black coding to air in rundown control (so that way when the control room goes to air an image wont just cut in on air) and it randomly fires the music custom control that is assigned to the first VO coding after that. I have sat there and prepped that black coding after our shows and taken it to air, then double clicked on it again to prep it and take it to air, and repeated this over and over again. Sometimes it would fire the CC from the VO several attempts in a row, sometimes it would fire it only once every few times I took it to air. Any thoughts?
