Production Switchers

All,

we are trying to get the cameras to be controlled by the switcher and ran into problems. Started with just one camera and the DB25 (?) on the back of the switcher. It worked fine, PTZ all functioned and calling up preset worked. When the device master arrived we networked everything together on a Cisco switch and while I did get it to work results were spotty.

You could get it to pan or tilt but not reliably, same with calling up presets.

Any thoughts?

I would recommend calling Tech support and they can walk through all the settings and cable pinout with you. I am sure it is something in the details.

Called them and Sony, and for those of you who might have the same stuff here is what we did to get it to work, and its working flawless at this point- i am so happy..

The pin out for the cable going between the Comtrol box and the Sony BRC-H700 is

*Note* If you read the manuals for both devices (Comtrol & Sony) this pin out appears to be wrong. Example Pin 2 on Comtrol is RxD- and its going to what Sony says is TxD+. But it works so I wont argue.

The final stumbling block was setting the dip switches on the bottom of the camera for the "camera ID". In the instructions it says to give each camera its own ID - starting with 0-1-2-3-4 ect, which makes sense.

WRONG. Leave them all set to ZERO or ONE. No other ID setting works through the Ross switcher. If we want to use the Sony controller we will have to switch them to separate ones, but for now....

I hope this helps anyone out there who is scratching their head wondering why its not working.

Question though -- do you currently have each camera on an individual port on the Comtrol or are they in their daisy chain?

The cameras are connected individually to the comtrol. Follow up question- can i paint the cameras from the Ross?

You are not able to paint the cameras from the switcher. We have PTZFI and some models give us Black control as well. Shot store/recall are also supported and do this to the camera head not the switcher.

To go on the individual connections -- this is why you have to have each of the cameras set to 0 (auto assign based on location of the chain) or 1 for being the Camera 1 unit. The first camera of each chain has to be number 1. So you have basically started separate chains, which you could have used a single port per 7 camera chain.

final posting- moved the Comtrol over to another building with the cameras and was able to control everything with no lag. works GREAT!!
