  • 1.  Auto-resume CG on Take

I'm switching on a Vision 2M with XPression running CGs. I would like to be able to send the "resume" command each time I take a CG channel on-air, similar to the way you can trigger a GPI when a specific source is taken. Before you ask, no, we're out of GPIs to use for this (Vision is integrated into our automation system via GPI).

For example, I have a lower 3rd ready in CG-1, a sponsor billboard in CG-2, a pre-built animation for a story in CG-3, and an intersticial in CG-4. Is there any way for me to have the Vision tell CG-1 to resume if I take it via the keyer module, CG-2 when I take it live in an MLE with a sponsor background, 3 when the script calls for it as it's being keyed into the background of another MLE, and 4 when I take the keyer module full in order to start the transition.

I can do this via SS (or like I said, GPI if I had more available), but I'd like to do this via serial to XPression, instead.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

I would build Custom Controls for those scenarios

For the Keyer module you could just attach the resume macro to the cut and auto trans buttons. Then every time you press the button it will send the resume command.

Well, that's an awesome and simple answer, and I'm actually quite disappointed that I didn't think of it. :) Just a pre-attach with x-frame delay to account for buffer time in XPression.

Glad it was that easy, my afternoon just freed up!

EDIT: that handles some of the simpler keying, but not "animate when taken on-air" via the MLE. That's the tougher part, I'm guessing.

Well actually what I might do is a replace instead :) make the cut button a key on state command after the resume and the X frames of delay.

Then I would make the auto trans a trans off with no resume. Or no macro at all since it would take the key off manually or on with no resume command sent :)

That way you can dissolve off the key or on and not send the resume. Then you can use the cut as a multi resume as needed since it will force the key on all the time.

The replace macro works great for the keyer module, and was what I was looking for. Use it daily now.

I'd still like to figure out how to trigger resumed once the input is on-air. For example, if I take CG-3 in program (not through the keyer module), how do I resume the scene without manually hitting resume, or having a custom control do it for me?

    Hi Dan,

Well I guess you could build a little "project" box with a relay to take in a tally and then convert that to a GPO that you put into the switcher. The Tally would link to the source -- it goes on air -- then the tally triggers the GPO into a switcher GPI that is set to fire the Custom Control that sends the resume command.

Actually -- scratch that -- You can assign a GPO directly to the source (it will use the Roll Clip function) that you wire into a GPI that is assigned as the CC Macro to send the resume.

The GPO and GPI are on the same DB-25 connector on the back of the frame.

Assignment of the GPO is in the Input configuration menu. It will also allow for a Pre-Roll to be set so that when you take it the GPO will trigger then the delay will be waited then the source will transition on air. If the Roll Clip button is turned off then the GPO will not send and the delay will be turned off.
