Hi, everybody. My school's TV station, GHS-TV, uses a Vision QMD-X switcher for all of its access shows and other programs, but it seems to be having trouble with some features.

First of all, the switcher is currently running software version 2... I know this is extremely out of date, but there are problems to solve before we can upgrade it. The switcher is not reading USB flash drives for some reason, from the port on the front of the control panel, and from the ports on the back of it. I've tried using a FAT32 drive so far, but do I need to format to NTFS? When I try to store the switcher's information onto the drive, an error message appears as well. It says something along the lines of "Disk unable to read. Disk permission denied. Unknown cause." The general managers want to back up the switcher's global memory before we update it, so we have to get that working first. Also, when we try to use the DVE and flying key, it says there is no squeeze and tease component installed. Could this just be an update issue? Networking on the switcher could be messed up as well, but I need to work with it a bit more in order to know. In case networking is functional, is there any way to back up global memory via WebDAV? This could just be another update problem, but I've been trying to capture some stills on the switcher (because bringing them in from a flash drive didn't work). When I go to capture a graphic, I pick the source video (preview) and I bring up our graphics computer on preview. I check to make sure the masks and positions are set, then I try to save to the ROSS/ file. When I hit capture the second time, the switcher says that the stills I requested are not available.

    Hi Sean,

Tech Support is Free with Ross Video for the life of the switcher. You really need to call Tech Support at 613-652-4886 and work through these items as they can assist you and walk you through it.

First off -- save to the hard drive to the file set you would like (00-99). Then just open up a web browser instead of using WebDav (only used for access to the Stills directory) and you can connect to the frames IP Address (same as webdav) user name and password are admin or user and then password. there is a tab for file sets and there you will be able to download the file to your computer. You can also "restore" file sets from this page as well.

Not sure what the issue is with the flash drive but you should try different ones if you can. Must be fat32 as NTFS is not readable or writeable.

S&T issues is probably due to the fact that they don't have enough or any of the DVE cards purchased. The other reason might be that they have DVEs on MLEs that don't have migration abilities with the MLE that your getting this error on.

Sometimes when capturing images what that error is saying is that it was not yet saved to disk when it tried to load it into the channel after the capture. However it should still be in the capture directory.

You are not on version 2. There was never a version 2. Vision built off of the Synergy line and debut at version 7.1b. However that is somewhat irrelevant. What we need to do is get the Vision OS upgraded and also get the System application software upgraded to a more recent version so that we can go from there.

again please contact tech support so they can assist you and resolve what you are seeing and also lend some help to figure out if what your seeing is issues or in the case of the DVEs a lack of options purchased.

    Les

OK. Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I've rechecked and the switcher is currently at version 10.1. The school has downloaded the update packages for v12 and v13, but we can't physically update it for some reason. I just bought 2 brand new 8GB flash drives, so I'll try to back it up again tomorrow. I put in a flash drive, though and I go to the disk menu and it asks me to either recall or store, and I try to store. The only thing that lets me complete the process is something to do with cameras. Our control room is pretty hefty for a high school, so it's been difficult to track the cables so I can connect to the switcher's web interface, but I'll work on it again and I'll call Tech Support.

    Thanks,

    Sean
