We use the Carbonite FCFS for all inputs as our cameras are not genlockable over single mode fibre.

    We are operating in 1080i.

The mixers output is recorded to a aja kipro as pro res 422 files.

The files are then imported to final cut pro 7 for editing.

The editors find a 1 frame dissolve exists on all camera cuts making editing a nightmare.

This is not something we can see in live production. We are doing cuts on the mixer not mixes.

Can Ross Video suggest what is happening?

    Peter,

Can you send us a few frames of video showing the cut point please. A single frame dissolve is a cut, however you are using an interlaced format and the cut frame might be the odd field of one frame and the even field of the next.

Check also which field is selected for the cut point - default is field 2.

    Thanks Nigel

Yes the default feild 2 is selected. If we set the final cut pro timeline to progressive you cannot see the fault but the vision is then unnatural. Please find image via this link

This is a cut not a mix

Peter, This is interesting and we need to try to create this ourselves, from the image it does look like a dissolve rather than an interlace issue - however that is impossible in realtime switching on a single frame.

As you are in Australia I assume this is 50Hz, Correct?

Can you tell us the current switcher software version please, also is this a Carbonite or a Carbonite Plus

Can you also let us know the Final Cut version and the project settings.

The image link you sent is difficult to decipher, could you export that frame as a still from Final Cut and send us the original please.

    Hi Nigel

The issue seems fixed now the Kona card has a setting on output to display single frame or full frame pause my editor says it seems to have fixed it . I obtainedthis from the aja site

New VideoOut "Pause on Full Frame/Single Field" mode allows you to select whether KONA 2

outputs full frame (with inter-field motion) or single-field video when in Pause (Stop)

.I knew it couldn't be my Carbonite! Now I await 7.3

That is good to know Peter - I knew it wasn't your Carbonite also :).

V 7.3 does not have anything significant in it BTW, its the release that adds the Carbonite eXtreme. There are some minor tweaks but thats about it. The real big one is version 8.0 which is probably 3 months away - now that one is exciting. Keep you eye on the site etc for more info.
