I love the new color corrector on the inputs but i am wondering if their is any word on color correctors for the outputs? I am using the media store to feed monitors via the aux outputs with still images and i would love the ability to be able to color correct the output because the still images look funky on camera. Any thoughts or suggestions on how i can achieve this with whats available now on the switcher?

or any idea if output color correctors are something that is coming on a future release?

There aren't any output color correctors, unfortunately. If you have any spare inputs and outputs, feed the aux bus back to an input, apply color correction (and maybe frame sync or you'll drop a line) and then out another aux bus to your monitor. Not pretty, but perhaps better than pictures that look wrong on camera.

Color corrections work great for monitors but I have also used a gel overlay such as 1/2CTO film and put that over a monitor to correct color temperature and for the most part it looks great. I have done this for many set monitors to help cameras pick up the images better. I don't know if that helps your situations but thought I would suggest it.

    Brandon,

I have tried this but unfortunately the glare off the monitor when i put the gel in front of it is unbearable. I wish they made the cto that was matte and not shiny. Did you have that problem and how did you get around it?

trying to figure out the best options that are cost effective.

We did have a few problems but simply tilting the monitor or adjusting a light usually took care of it. I found it was something we could work around. We were using plasmas which gave a glare anyway so it was a problem with or without.

I also used a glue and water solution to attach the CTO to the monitor and if I got that smooth by using a squeegee it also helped.

But I agree if they ever made a matte finish that would be great

Why not color correct the monitor internally? Most monitors have a white balance adjustment.

    David,

Your answer is older than 11 month now. Is there a solution out now? I think there are a lot of people here, using the AUX to feed a monitor (we feed five monitors on five AUX). And an output color correction would be a great feature.

Hi Felix, I fully agree that having color correctors on the aux outputs would be a great feature. Unfortunately, there are limits to how much video processing is available in the Carbonite frame as this is a hardware feature, not a software feature. Color correction over multiple outputs uses a very large number of multipliers. Note that the input color correctors are on a separate circuit board from the rest of the video processing so other than looping an output back into an input, there's no way to repurpose those color correctors over to the outputs.

I would try this device from Ensemble Designs. Its HD/SD-SDI to HDMI and offers Color Correction.
