  • 1.  Using DVE to fly Graphics

Have a Carbonite 2x frame, running latest upgrade. Trying to see if we can use the DVE to fly a Chyron Graphic (both the fill and key signals). As soon as I selected DVE for the type of key, the Carbonite quit using the Key signal. Is this a known limitation, or am I missing an extremely easy and obvious step in the process?

    Hi Brian,

You are not able to "Fly Keys" with the DVE. They are for doing Boxes only.

Is there any way to do a fly key then?

    Solly:

The switcher is not made to do this as Les has stated --- However, you can accomplish a 'FLY KEY" with the switcher but it is a little complicated. You can only "fly" the key around left, right, up, down and zoom in and out. In essence I am tricking the switcher by doing a split key with each side fill and matte respectively moving.

How I do it, because I need to fly a graphic around the screen also from time to time.

    ME1 Key1 - DVE (CG fill)

    ME1 Key2 - DVE (CG matte)

I then have ME1 Key1 ON over black, ME1 Key2 OFF over black -- Then on ME1 tag the Background, Key 1 and Key 2 -- Thus key1 is ME1 pgm and key2 is ME1 pvw

    * Make an Emem on ME 1 -- move the DVEs together and save as another Emem. Have ME1 - AI ON press emem position 1 then emem position 2... etc

Your DVEs should track together and move all over the place.

Make ME1PGM and ME1PVW crosspoints in the switcher -- same as you would make any crosspoint input source.

On ME2 - do a split key with ME1pgm as the fill and ME1pvw as the matte.... Turn this keyer ON and key over whatever source you need to.

If you are lazy like I am -- I build the DVE moves as a CC timeline

Hope this all helps. If you can not get it to work right -- you can email me directly and I can talk you through the steps if you provide a phone number.

Nice Idea Gordon -- I would add to your method in that I would use the Clean Feed instead. That way you could still use the backside (preview) to do a Chroma Key or even another Two Box.

When you get the version 8 update and turn on the MiniMEs you could use 2 of those to do the same trick and then not have to waste the full ME.

    Les:

I have rattled my brain thinking about how a 'clean feed' could be used. -- Can you elaborate on how you would do it with a clean feed?

I don't use the ME1 Clean - because I want to be able to do a split key on ME2 with the moving fill (ME1pgm) and moving matte (ME1pvw).

I for one can not wait for the version 8 release --- I am going to be MiniME --- Happy !!

Is their a more specific target date other than sometime in January?

Not many more days left in January :)

Sorry for the delay Gordon I am traveling this week and answering posts from a phone is tough -- finally time to break out the computer.

I set ME 1 CF to before K2. Fly the Alpha on Key 1 Fly the Fill on Key 2. On ME 2 Keyer I do a Split of ME1PGM to ME1CLN. Now you still have the "Preview" Side of the ME to do say a 2 Box or even a Chroma Key over a different Background since both the Fill and Alpha of the CG are now being flown over Black on the Background bus leaving the PST open for other source assignment.

Version 8 is in QA and it has had some bugs hit is so looks like it is going to be down to the wire and be on the 31st. Obviously I will post here as soon as I am able to get it released and thrown up on the web.

Is there an easier way to do this using the MiniME's so I don't lose the full use of both ME's?

Yes on one MiniME fly the alpha over Black and then on another MiniME fly the Fill over black.

In you ME Keyer perform a split key and your done.
