How does the custom control cache work? Is there a way to tell if the cache is being filled? How quickly does the cache empty?

I am asking these questions because we are having issues with running stingers from OverDrive that key in and key out. They were running fine for awhile but then stopped. What I came to find was that if the effect is in preview for more than 20 seconds and I then run it - it fails. But if it is in preivew for less time (or I double click the item to recue in OverDrive), it will run correctly.

    Vision software - 16.1d

    OverDrive - 10.0.10

    Thanks,

    - Jason

    Hi Jason,

The Cache is the total amount of memory that your current switcher setup file of Customs Controls is using. This does not work like a "page file" or Media Store cache. When you load a switcher setup all of the CCs and Memories are loaded into the space in memory that is reserved for them. So currently your only using about 30% of that space.

The way the cache works is it is a "total" of all of the instructions in all of your custom controls. Bigger Customs with more events take up more space as they are not fixed in size.

I don't see this a switcher side custom control issue and more of something with regards to OverDrive. In newer versions of OverDrive they support for Custom Control as a Transition Type is available and it takes away from these items.

Thank you for the info Les.

My many occurrences last night leading to my theory of the custom controls failing only if the item had been in preview for more than 30 seconds is now not happening today. But every time I have been live at 5PM for last few weeks these custom controls have failed.

With our version of OD we are able to do custom control transitions, and have for some quick animations, but for our stingers we have wanted to keep them as video server mos-objects and their own entity within the OD rundown.

It is just baffling to me as to why it only fails during certain hours of the day (and did not use to fail). Could there be some kind of networking connectivity issue with OverDrive occurring during certain hours?

    Thanks,

    - Jason

    Hi Jason,

Well we did add the ability for a Custom To Send the actual commands like Take Next, Prepare Next and others in the Vision. However you would need to be running version 12 Overdrive to be able to use that feature.

    Thank you Les,

Yes, it would be great to be able to upgrade to V. 12 for this reason. Is it also true that with V. 12 of OD, custom controls are cued in advance with a look-ahead type feature, to prevent mishaps?

Today a custom control transition failed. Apparently the "MLE 4 Cut" portion of the custom did not fire when the transition ran.

that would seem very strange. you really should be contacting Techsupport at this point to get a ticket started and so that logs and file sets can be pulled.
