I am currently setting up a Ross Carbonite Black 2-M/E switcher for a Microsoft show. The problem I have is when I try to load or capture a still the display says "(No USB)" On page 11 of the operation manual it says: "uSB "” The USB port on the control panel is not implemented at this time."
Is that still true? I have tried both USB Ports, the one on the switcher panel and the one on the front of the Mainframe, but I get the same (No USB) message.
I also trie a USB thumb drive formatted EXFAT and one formatted NTFS, neither one was recognized by the switcher. Is there a better format for a USB thumb drive to use?

Is there any memory internal the can hold a still? Are there any other problems that would keep the switcher form storing a still? If I am loading a still (jpeg) from a thumb drive, is there naming protocols I must follow?

Thanks,
BrianA.

Hi Brian,
"‹Depending on which version of software you are running there is some functionality available from the USB on the panel but media is still stored through the USB on the frame.
"‹I've never had trouble with a standard (FAT32) formatted USB thumb drive except when I've tried to use an extra cheap and nasty one (which my laptop wouldn't recognize either). HAve you tried with a different thumb drive? How big is your thumb drive? Have you been able to store switcher sets or recall existing stills from it?
"‹You could also try and see if you can get to it via ftp.

"‹There's no way of storing stills internally on the frame, just on a USB drive. As far as naming them if it's a capture the switcher will "name" it, otherwise the only time the name really matters is if you have an animation when you name them sequentially Anim_001.tga, Anim_002.tga etc. The switcher will give them a number when you send them to a media store the first time that that's what you use to recall them in a CC.

Thanks, Josford
I tried a different thumb drive formatted FAT32 and that worked in the USB slot on the mainframe.
By the way, Ross Tech Support responded "the USB port on the panel is not functional, but it will charge your iPhone!"

Correct there is no function currently on the panel USB other than using it to power a USB device. We did not want to preclude the ability in the future so we made sure to put one on the panel and see if we could implement it in the future -- basically the Processor in the panel that was needed for doing the IP panels has a USB port so we ran it up to the surface.
