When we set the GPIO interface as GPI input, is it a passive circuit or active circuit?

When I send GPI trigger from external device to Carbonite frame, I should give it a contact closure or a +5V DC level?

Depends I how you define the config of the trigger.

Setting as a low and using A contact closure will work. Setting as a high will need a 5V level or trigger based on the settings.
