  • 1.  Chroma key with Media Store

I am using a Crossover 16 switcher. I'm using green screen and chroma key capabilities to create virtual sets in order to spice up our shoots and give us some variety. So, I set up multiple memories - 1 for each camera - with the camera as the key over a background. Instead of utilizing my 3 graphics channels coming out of Xpression for the background (CG, SS1, SS2), I was hoping I could use the media store channels as the source I key over. I need 3 different images - 1 for each camera. I know that if I set the media store mode to dual, I have the capacity for 4 media store channels. When I went into the configuration of my buses, I realized the media store channels are not assigned to any source (or shift source) on any bus. Also, I was only given the option to assign M3 and M4, but not M1 or M2. Any idea 1) if I can indeed chroma key over media stores, and 2) how to assign 3 different media stores to sources on the switcher so that I can program them for a chroma key set up to save as a memory.

    Thanks!!

    Hi,

It would appear that you are using the Media Stores as the CG channels (SS1 and SS2) they would then be using the Channels 3 and 4 as the Alpha channels.

So if you do use them for Chroma Key backgrounds you will then be unable to use them for other graphics during those shots.

First go into the Config menu and under Bus Map you will be able to assign all sources to the switcher cross points (it looks like you have SS1 and SS2 which are Media 1 and Media 2 renamed). Don't forget if the bus is getting full you can always assign a button to Shift to give you more access.

once assigned you press the button on the background. The menu will follow and then you can navigate to the image that you want to load. Then save the memory. Keep in mind you want to use a different channel per background. Normally I would load all 4 channels then do a camera at a time storing each memory as I go. That way the Media Stores always have the correct backgrounds already in them for every memory.

    Hi Les,

Thanks for your reply. The second half of your post makes sense. However, we run graphics to SS1 and SS2 through Xpression, not Media Stores. We currently have no graphics/images stored in the Media Stores. We've never made use of them. I thought that Xpression and the media stores were 2 separate entities. Maybe I'm confused though!

    Thanks!

No by the way you have explained how you are using the XPression and having 3 channels called CG and then SS1 and SS2 those are using the network to connect to the switcher MediaStores and then dump directly into them.

Sorry but your using them up.
