Hi James -- Carbonite Units (the 16/24 input models) Do not have UHD operation like in the document you specify. Version 14 (UHD ONLY by the way) is for Carbonite Black, Black Plus and Black Plus 12G switchers only.
In Carbonite series we were doing a "sudo" UHD but that was Quadrant based and uses the MiniMEs in the 2x2 Config. You UHD though has to be in Quadrants and use the Substitution tables. In 1080p50/59.94 on the Carbonite Frames only have 4 DVEs so when you use the DVE in the Background for doing 1080p to UHD conversion that will consume all 4 DVEs.
In the MiniME in Carbonite in this mode you have a DVE Keyer for Key 1 (again if your using them in the Background they won't be available) and Key 2 can be a Linear Key.
Carbonite Plus and Carbonite MM have 12 Frame Syncs in 1080p50/59.94. They DO NOT do any format conversion. So all your sources need to be 1080p50/59.94 and they have to be LEVEL A.
MiniMEs do not have a Clean Feed.
Carbonite Black series -- These perform the processing in full raster and accept the source Native Quad 2SI -- if you have QSD sources then you will need to have a Black Plus or Plus 12G so that they can do the format conversion from QSD to 2SI. These Frames are also able to accept other video formats and do up conversion to UHD.
There is 1 ME and 2 MiniMEs. The ME does have a Clean Feed for the ME. Again there is on 1 FULL ME.
Hope that helps.
Les
