Gen lock troubles

    Greetings,

I am having trouble with genlock from my 2 computer sources. I have a Crossover Solo. I am using a mac mini with Thunderbolt out to a matrox triple head to go, from 2 outs each goes to a matrox Convert DVI (witch has genlock in and HD/SDI out from there to the switcher. I can not seem to get them to all sync up at the same time. I have never had any trouble with the cameras that we use. They sync right up. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

    Thank you

    Hi Louis,

The Crossover only have 4 Frame Syncs so you might have an issue if your using those with the cameras and then the Other Items are out of sync. If the Matrox converters are not "rolling" then they are locked -- just not in time.

If you are using one of the outputs from the switchers Ref generator then you can use them to adjust the timing that your sending to the Matrox units and this should make them dial back in.

Les. Thanks for your reply. I am using an external source for a reference generator. I think my problem is further up the chain. Is it possible to use external for the cameras and internal for my graphics feed and key feed?

Yes you could use the switcher to lock to one reference while then using the internal generator to send out a different reference with timing adjustments to those other devices.

Hi Guys, I have a carbonite, and i also have a GV Turbo T1. The turbo is looking to see a PAL genlock, . if i take the 2 player outputs to the inputs of the Carbonite SDI, the are rolling, even when the genlock from Carbonite to T1 is PAL and showing locked. Im thinking i need to shift some settings around or something. At the moment i have to use 2 FS on board to lock the inputs. Defeats the purpose of Ref in i think . Any suggestions

    Hi Derek,

If the GV is rolling then there is a problem as it would appear that it is not locking to the reference. Is it rolling? or is the Vertical just shifted? If just shifted you can use the H/V settings (use the V first) to control the reference output and adjust the offset to bring the Turbo into time.

    Hi Les,

Thank you for your reply, having looked at it further , lets say i have Bars up, most of the image is Green, i have tried say a clip, and it does as you say, look vertically shifted. Admittedly i havent spent too much time on this but i will give this a closer look and get back to you. I tried a few clicks around but it didnt seem to do much. Over the next few days i will look further.

I've seen the green screen from Ross genlock in one condition: If you're trying to lock an SD source with an HD lock.

Now, I've also only worked in NTSC, so it could be you're crossing signals and sending a PAL genlock to an NTSC device, or vice versa, or a combination of PAL/NTSC SD/HD genlocks crossing paths.

    Hi Dan,

I think you could be on the money there, mind you i know i did try a few ways, Strange thing is this is T1, it only accepts PAL i know carbonite can output PAL let me go check and i will let you know. I still need to try other suggestions too one day.
