• 1.  Media Wipe is under keyers

We are having an issue where keyers are in front of the media wipes.

Anytime we execute a media wipe when only the background is set to transition, the media wipe plays behind the graphics. However if any keyer is selected to be part of the next transition (even a useless keyer with black as the source) the media player clip properly covers everything.

My understanding is that the media player wipes are effectively Keyer 5 on this switcher (which should make them cover everything, all the time) and that the proirities are not adjustable so I'm not sure how this occurrence is possible or how to fix it.

Hi Jeremy,

Media Wipes work "just like a wipe" or "DVE WIPE" would work. If you were to perform a Wipe on just the background you would see that it also goes under the keyers that are not selected in the next Transition.

If your looking to always have the Wipe on top you would need to build them as custom controls that use Keyer 4 to do the Wipe covering and not the Transition Area Keyer.

Hey Les

I can understand building the transition on Keyer 4 as that's how I'm used to building effects on a Kalypso/Lance/FastForward, however, on the Carbonite if ANY keyer is selected as part of the next transition then ALL keyers are behind the media wipe - even ones that are not being transitioned. Where does the media wipe keyer live in the video flow/ layer priority scheme or does it float?

It's based on the Highest Keyer Layer as it needs to be included into the wipe which would put the wipe over it.

So say you only did Key 3 then it would be over 1-2-3 but would be under 4 and you would see Key 4.

Gotcha. Thanks. I will rebuild the effects to keyer 4.

Hiho,

after another show I'd like to give you a feedback from production side:

There's almost no situation, where you would want any keyer to be on top of the media wipe. In my opinion the media wipe should be the top layer by default. Others seem to have the same issue:

http://discussions.rossvideo.com/forum/default-forum-gc1/carbonite-production-switchers-gc18/5293-media-wipe-on-top-layer
http://discussions.rossvideo.com/forum/default-forum-gc1/carbonite-production-switchers-gc18/1377-media-transition
...

I understand, that it's not configurable at the moment and that it's working like any other wipe at the moment but as soon as you're dealing with bugs and scores during the show, you're running into problems right now. The media wipe function basically becomes useless as you need to rebuild it via CC anyways.

I'd appreciate if you'd consider this for the future.

So Not looking to get into an argument. However I have done a few productions now where I have needed to maintain a Keyer (Bug/Logo/Ticker) where by the Wipe transitions did have to go below another Keyer. That said I have also wanted to be able to position the Wipe to a specific layer point. This would make life easier I agree.

I agree that there should be a way to control the priority of the "MediaWipe keyer" - having it above only some keyers and having it above all keyers are both useful depending on the particular production.

In addition, I would like to request that there be an option to configure the clean feed output either with or without the Media Wipe keyer (and this option should be separate from the current option of which standard keyers are included on the clean feed). Version 12 has made a great step forward with the option to select a transition type such as a dissolve, wipe, or DVE instead of just a cut under the Media Wipe. Building on that functionality, it would be useful to be able to configure a MediaWipe with, for example, a short dissolve, and then configure the clean feed without the MediaWipe. This would enable something like a transition to a replay to be a MediaWipe on the main program output and a smooth dissolve on the clean feed. If this is possible given the current hardware, it would be a great feature to have!

I totally support that.
We're still in version 11.0 because we need the clean feed without the media wipe.
